U.S. House, District 6
Maryland will send eight representatives to the 106th Congress for a two-year term. The boundaries of the congressional districts are determined by the state legislature. Seven of them are in or near the Washington region. Both Republican and Democratic candidates will be on the ballots in all those districts. The challengers face well-entrenched incumbents.

Occupation/Employer: Citizen-legislator, member of U.S. House of Representatives, citizens of Maryland 6th District.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: No prior elected office; job experience as a professor, research scientist, inventor, small-business owner and farmer; still active as a farmer.
Why should voters elect you?
"I am a citizen-legislator, not a politician. My goals as your elected representative in Congress and my record have been and continue to be consistent. I am a conservative devoted to limited federal government and upholding our Constitution. I support lower spending, a strong defense, less taxes and less regulation. I fought for and overcame presidential opposition to deliver the first balanced federal budget in 30 years, the first tax cuts in 16 years, welfare reform and reform of the IRS. I am a vigorous advocate and facilitator on behalf of advancing citizens' concerns and resolving problems with federal agencies."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"I practice what I preach. I have Maryland's best voting attendance record, no special interest travel and fund scholarships at 10 colleges in the district."

Timothy D. McCown
Democrat
Age: 48
Residence: Jefferson, Frederick County.
| |
Married: Yes.
Children: None.
|
Education: BA, U.S. history, University of Iowa.
|
|
|
Occupation/Employer: Self-Addictions counselor.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: Vista volunteer; Democratic Party activist; small-business man.
Why should voters elect you?
"Don't vote for Tim McCown if you are not fed up with our coin-operated Congress. Money has done to our political ideas and problem solving what inbreeding does to the gene pool. Don't vote for Tim McCown unless you want common-sense problem solving. Don't vote for Tim McCown unless you want: more schoolhouses and fewer jails; more books, fewer arsenals; more constant work, less crime; more sharing, less greed; and more justice, less revenge, to paraphrase Samuel Gompers, founder of the American Federation of Labor."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"In 1991, I was downsized. People said, 'Tim you don't know how to run your own business.' That business I didn't know how to run has three offices today."
Web site: None.
