State Senate District 14
Maryland’s 47 state senators comprise the upper house of the General Assembly, which meets for 90 days each year in Annapolis. Along with the lower house, the House of Delegates, the senators consider more than 2,000 bills in a session, and they review and approve the state budget submitted by the governor. They serve four-year terms.

Why should voters elect you?
"The representatives you elect this year will face many challenges as we approach the 21st century. You must choose representatives who can expand upon our current prosperity, continue to reinvent a more efficient government, keep the budget balanced and protect the personal freedoms we now enjoy. From my experience as deputy counsel to U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein and chief counsel to U.S. Senator Robert Torricelli, and my experience in Annapolis and in owning a business, I know what it will take to navigate our district into the next century. I hope you will honor me with your support."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"You can always trust that I will be true to my word, and true to the voters of this district and this state."

Occupation/Employer: Senior development officer, Johns Hopkins Hospital and School of Medicine.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: State Senate; Maryland Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy; Marylanders Against Casinos; Governor's Adoption Oversight Committee.
Why should voters elect you?
"I have served in the Maryland Senate since 1991, representing one of the state's fastest-growing areas, Howard and Montgomery counties. I attempt to be a clear and independent voice on major state issues. I co-founded Marylanders Against Casinos and remain an outspoken critic of slot machine legalization in Maryland. I also authored legislation to create the Maryland Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy to move our state toward truth in sentencing and optimum use of our public safety resources. As a father of three children, I enjoy the challenges of balancing a private career in health care while serving as a citizen legislator."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"I am a proud husband and father of three children and know that it is challenging but possible to maintain a balanced private and public life."
