Maryland’s 47 state senators comprise the upper house of the General Assembly, which meets for 90 days each year in Annapolis. Along with the lower house, the House of Delegates, the senators consider more than 2,000 bills in a session, and they review and approve the state budget submitted by the governor. They serve four-year terms.

Why should voters elect you?
"I will support legislative initiatives of the people to make Maryland the best it can be. I will identify cost savings, revenue generation and cash acceleration opportunities. For the people, this will mean government becomes more responsible and responsive. As an example, the Department of Natural Resources and Department of the Environment should be merged. If the environment is not a natural resource, what is? I support public schools; however, I will not give crowded classrooms a standing ovation. School funding should be increased to reduce class size and enhance decision-making by the people who work with the students."

What do you want voters to know about you?
"My candidacy is the culmination of years of community service. If elected, I will encourage public-private partnerships and develop methods to streamline the state's bureaucracy."

Why should voters elect you?
"I have worked hard to represent the concerns and needs of my constituents and all Marylanders during my service in the Senate. I am proud of my record of accomplishments in many areas, including education, health care, environmental protection, public safety, campaign finance reform and support for the most vulnerable and needy among us. Despite the progress we have made in these areas, much remains to be done, and I have many ideas on how to make Maryland an even better place to live. If reelected, I will continue to do my best to uphold the trust of all Marylanders."

What do you want voters to know about you?
"I have always been responsive to helping constituents with their everyday problems whenever I can make a difference."
