State Senate District 25
Maryland’s 47 state senators comprise the upper house of the General Assembly, which meets for 90 days each year in Annapolis. Along with the lower house, the House of Delegates, the senators consider more than 2,000 bills in a session, and they review and approve the state budget submitted by the governor. They serve four-year terms.

Elected Offices and Civic Activities: House of Delegates; state Senate; board member, Association of Retarded Children; trustee and steward, Allen Chapel AME Church; first African American to preside over the House of Delegates and to chair the Prince George's Senate delegation; president, Association of School Administrators and Supervisors; member, Omega Psi Phi fraternity and former member of numerous boards and organizations.

"Because of my selfless commitment to representing my constituents, ability to analyze legislative issues, and understanding of the budget. Respected by my peers, I am a problem solver, results oriented and have earned a reputation as an effective and caring legislator. A hard worker with integrity, honor and strong core values, I serve as a role model for youth. I have initiated efforts to establish stronger gun control laws, strengthen laws to enforce child support payments, and have provided incentives to expand black business ownerships. I am fiscally responsible, have fought for state money for the school system."
