Arlington County Schools Last update: August 29, 1997 How do I register my child for school? You'll need a birth certificate, immunization, proof of residency (lease, deed, mortgage), and proof of a negative tuberculosis test. You also will need a completed Virginia State Health Form signed by a doctor. The TB test and the state health exam must be less than a year old. You can register your children at any time. However, school officials normally don't accept registration of new kindergarten students until 10 months before their entrance to school. You must register your child at the local school that he or she will attend. Call the Office of Information at 358-6005 to find your local school.
Following is the 1997-'98 school calendar for Arlington County schools:
Sept. 10, 17, 24: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. Oct. 1, 8, 22: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. Oct. 9-10: Elementary schools close after lunch for parent-teacher conferences. Oct. 13: Columbus Day holiday. Oct. 29: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. Nov. 5, 12, 29: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. Nov. 10: Middle and high schools closed for professional activities for teachers. Nov. 11: Veterans Day holiday. Nov. 27-28: Thanksgiving holiday. Dec. 3, 10, 17: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. Dec. 22-Jan. 2: Winter break. Jan. 7, 14, 21, 28: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. Jan. 19: Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Jan. 30: Middle and high schools closed for professional activities for teachers. Feb. 4, 11, 18, 25: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. Feb. 16: Presidents' Day holiday. March 4, 11, 18, 25: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. March 5-6: Elementary schools close for parent-teacher conferences. April 1, 15, 22, 29: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. April 6-10: Spring break. April 17: Middle and high schools closed for professional activities for teachers. May 6, 13, 20: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. May 25: Memorial Day holiday. June 3, 10: Elementary schools close after lunch for professional activities for teachers. June 22: Elementary and middle schools close early for professional activities for teachers. June 23: Last day of school.
