A Mason-Dixon Political/Media Research poll on the Virginia governor's race finds Attorney General James S. Gilmore III holding a statistically insignificant lead over Lt. Gov. Donald S. Beyer Jr.

In the copyrighted poll, conducted for media clients May 1-3, 812 likely voters were surveyed by telephone. Gilmore (R) led Beyer (D) by 2 percentage points. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Details follow.
