Suburban Bus Services

Many regional bus services reach areas that are not covered by Metrobus. Some of these services are designed for commuters and run only on weekday mornings and evenings, and some offer daily bus schedules. For bus service in a particular location, click on the location below.

Annapolis Transit - City of Annapolis
The City of Annapolis runs four bus routes, a summertime trolley route, a park-and-ride shuttle and a Kent Island shuttle. Base fare is $.75, or $1.50 to Kent Island. Buses run about every half-hour, 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday-Saturday. For more information, call Annapolis Transit at 410-263-7964. Arlington Trolley - Crystal City
The Arlington Trolley shuttles passengers around the Crystal City area of Arlington every ten minutes on weekdays from 6:30-9:30 a.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m., connecting to the Crystal City Metro station. Fare is $.35. Call 703-358-3575 for more information.

The Bus - Prince George's County
Prince George's County runs two bus routes: #20 from Upper Marlboro along Route 4 to the Addison Road metro station and #21 from Upper Marlboro along route 202, through Largo, to the New Carrollton Metro station. Both run on weekdays only, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Regular fare is $.75. Call 301-883-5656 for more information.

Calvert County
Calvert County runs four local bus lines between Prince Frederick and various parts of the county, as far north as North Beach and as far south as Solomons and Drum Point. Routes run Monday-Friday, and most routes have 3-5 trips per day between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. General fare is $1.25; local fare is $.50. CUE - Fairfax City
CUE operates two lines that serve the Vienna Metrorail station, George Mason University and the city of Fairfax. The service operates seven days a week. Regular fare is $.50. Call 703-385-7859 for more information, or visit the CUE Web page for route and schedule information.

Connect-A-Ride - Greater Laurel Area
Connect-A-Ride is operated by the nonprofit Corridor Transportation Corporation and serves Laurel, Beltsville, Savage, Maryland City, Whiskey Bottom, Burtonsville, NSA/Ft. Meade, Columbia and the Greenbelt Metro station. The service runs Monday through Saturday; rides cost $1.00 and monthly passes are available. DASH - Alexandria City
DASH connects the Braddock Road, Eisenhower Avenue, King Street, Van Dorn Street and Pentagon Metrorail stations to points throughout Alexandria. All DASH routes operate seven days a week, and DASH offers monthly passes. Call 703-370-3274 for more information.

Dillon's Bus Service - Annapolis
Dillon's Bus Service runs routes 921 and 922 between the District, New Carrollton, Annapolis and Kent Island. Trips run Monday-Friday, and fares range from $2.00 to $3.85. Eyre Bus Service - Columbia and Hagerstown
Eyre Bus Service runs two routes between Columbia and D.C. and one between Hagerstown and the Shady Grove Metro station. These are strictly commuter routes that run Monday through Friday, inbound in the mornings and outbound in the evenings. Call the Maryland MTA at 1-800-543-9809 for more information or see Eyre's Web page for schedules.

Fairfax Connector - Fairfax County
Fairfax Connector serves Fairfax County and provides connections to Metrorail, VRE, and DASH. Most buses operate only during weekday rush hour, but there are some weekend, mid-day and evening schedules. Fares range from $.25 to $2.55, depending on route and time of day. Fredericksburg Regional Transit
Fredericksburg Regional Transit runs "Fred," a bus service with four routes serving the city of Fredericksburg. Buses run Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and fares are $.25. Call 540-372-1222 for more information.

HATS - Howard County
Howard Area Transit Service runs five weekday and Saturday bus routes in Howard County, centered on Columbia Mall. Buses run roughly hourly from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and fares are $1. For more information, call 410-313-1919. The Free Spirit Shuttle runs during weekday rush hours up the Route 1 corridor, connecting the Dorsey and Jessup MARC stations to BWI; it's free. Loudoun County Commuter Buses
Loudoun County runs weekday commuter buses, inbound in the mornings and outbound in the evenings, from Purcellville, Sterling, Leesburg and Hamilton into Rosslyn and the District. Trips leave Loudoun from 5:10 a.m. to 7:15 a.m. and leave the District from 3:40 p.m. to 5:35 p.m. Fare is $5 each way, $40 for ten trips. Call 703-771-5665 for more information.

Ocean City Greyhound service
During the beach season, Greyhound runs two buses a day from Washington to Ocean City and three a day from Silver Spring to Ocean City. Fares are $84 roundtrip from Washington and $69 roundtrip from Silver Spring. For more information, check out Greyhound's Web site.

Keller Transportation - Southern Maryland
Keller Transportation runs two routes from Southern Maryland to D.C. The 904 bus starts in North Beach, and the 905 comes from Charlotte Hall and Waldorf. These are strictly commuter routes that run Monday through Friday, inbound in the mornings and outbound in the evenings. Call the Maryland MTA at 1-800-543-9809 or Keller Transportation at 301-843-1881 for more information.

PRTC - Prince William and Stafford Counties

RIBS - Reston
RIBS, short for Reston Internal Bus System, operates four daytime bus lines around Reston, Monday through Saturday. The cost is $.50 per ride. For more information call 703-548-4545. LINK provides maps and schedules for RIBS service.

Ride-On - Montgomery County
The Montgomery County government operates Ride-On, one of the oldest bus services in the area. Ride-On provides connections to Metrorail, Metrobus and MARC stations. The base fare for Ride-On buses is $1.10 during rush hour and $.90 at all other times. Until June 1997, Ride-On buses will accept rail-to-bus transfers for bus trips originating at Shady Grove Metro station as part of a state-funded pilot program, making these rail-to-bus trips free of charge. STS - St. Mary's County
The St. Mary's Transit System runs four bus routes hourly on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. between Lexington Park and Leonardtown, around Leonardtown, and around Great Mills, with connections to the Patuxent Naval Base shuttle. Base fare is $1. For more information, call 301-475-5100.

VanGO - Charles County
Charles County runs a local bus service called VanGO that runs Monday-Saturday throughout the county. Most routes ferry people from outlying areas into Waldorf or St. Charles. Trips are occasional, and many routes only run on one day a week. Fares are $1.00, half price for senior citizens. For more information, call 301-609-7917.
