DATABASE: Sports Charities
See how your home team stacks up when it comes to corporate giving. Browse the rankings or search for a sport, city or team to see detailed information.
The numbers have been provided by the Foundation Center, a national nonprofit service organization that tracks U.S. foundations and charities. They reflect the contributions that team-sponsored foundations and charities have made to non-profit organizations and, in some cases, individuals.
They do not include what are known as direct corporate giving programs, where teams make (generally) non-cash donations of merchandise or memorabilia directly to local organizations without going through their affiliated foundations and charities.
Contribution totals are taken from the foundations' tax returns and reflect the most recent filing submitted to the IRS by the individual foundations and charities. Like foundations and charities in general, sports charities don’t all submit their returns at the same time (or year), and consequently reflect a range of fiscal years from 2007 to 2009.
