Douglas E. Judd

Candidate for City Council

Age: 53

Residence: Blooms Crossing.

Education: BA, English, MA, educational psychology and counseling, University of Texas at El Paso.

Occupation: Vice president, management support division, Camber Corp.; retired lieutenant colonel, U.S. Army.

Elected offices/civic activities: Former director of personnel and community activities, U.S. Military Training Mission, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 1994-96; former education services officer and chairman, Military Community Council; former director of community activities and services, Vint Hill Farms Station, Warrenton.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "Manassas Park is a rapidly developing, diverse, expanding community. Consequently, the most urgent issue facing the city is the growing demand on infrastructure and supporting services: schools, streets, transportation, city services, etc. I support 'growth by design' whereby we look carefully at the total impact of future projects and developments and their potential stress on the city's ability to sustain and support all the people. We need to encourage appropriate business development and increase the city's economic position. We need to develop a sense of ownership within the community and look at making city government more accessible and accountable."

Why should voters elect you? "I bring real-world experience, new ideas and a fresh look; I support 'growth by design,' sustaining educational improvements, assessing community needs and listening to people."
