J. Brant Baber

Candidate for Clifton Town Council

Age: 54

Residence: Clifton.

Education: BA, George Washington University; JD, New York Law School.

Occupation: President, American Village Communities; vice president, Baber & Kalinowski PC.

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, Clifton Town Council, 2004-present; member, Clifton Board of Zoning Appeals.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "Carrying out the town's governmental functions, such as administering use permits, Architectural Review Board certificates of appropriateness, taxes, and operation and maintenance of town parks and facilities, applying for and administering grants and working with local and state governments. A resident of the town for 26 years, I have witnessed the decline in folks' ability to volunteer services of these types and the difficulty neighbors have in enforcing standards on their neighbors. Therefore, the town needs to retain a full-time administrator and develop a recurrent source of revenue to fund that cost."

Why should voters elect you? "I am an experienced problem solver, independent thinker and am action oriented. I'd rather confront and resolve problems than ruminate over them for too long."
