Jeffrey C. Greenfield

Candidate for City Council

Age: 39

Residence: Windy Hill.

Education: BA, political science, MA, public administration, George Mason University.

Occupation: Owner, Greenfield Enterprises LLC.

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, Fairfax City Council, 1994-present; former chairman, City University Committee; vice chairman, Livability Task Force; member, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments board of directors; president, Windy Hill Homeowners Association; member, state and national associations of registered parliamentarians; member, George Mason University Alumni Association; member, National Eagle Scout Association; member, Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce; assistant scoutmaster, Boy Scout Troop 882; past president and former member, Fairfax Jaycees.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "On average, residents will see another year of increased assessments beyond 20 percent. Because assessments are mandated by state code, there is little the council can do but lower the tax rate. I am proud of the leadership role I have played over the past 12 years in lowering the tax rate to what has become the lowest overall in Northern Virginia. We need to continue to monitor our tax relief program for seniors. Given rising assessments and the desire for seniors to remain in their homes, we need to focus on solutions that will achieve that result."

Why should voters elect you? "I have proven myself to be a council member who does his homework and listens carefully to both sides of an issue."
