Lane G. Johnston

Candidate for Clifton Town Council

Age: 59

Residence: Clifton.

Education: BA, Journalism, University of Missouri.

Occupation: Flower designer, A Flower Blooms in Clifton; retired public relations specialist with two trade associations, and press secretary, U.S. Senate.

Elected offices/civic activities: Editor, Clifton Clatter newsletter; member, Clifton History Commission and Clifton ISTEA Committee; former member, Clifton Planning Commission; former president, Gates Mills, Ohio, Parent Teacher Organization.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "In one word, traffic. But, since we can't make it go away, we need to make it safe for our town families to go about their business around town without fear of getting run over. I am optimistic that we can build on what we have and do an even better job with future sidewalks and paths through the town, and that we can come up with traffic management/calming ideas that both enhance the historic look and feel of Clifton while slowing the flow of traffic; e.g., tree-filled planters, sculptures or textured roadbeds. Our unique small-town charm must be preserved."

Why should voters elect you? "I feel I have much to offer, having been a part of the community for 23 years; it's time to give back to my town."
