Mark W. Ellmore (R)

House of Representatives District 8

Age: 47

Residence: Kingstowne.

Education: Hayfield Secondary School.

Occupation: Vice president, Mortgage Lending Division, Alliance Bank N.A.

Elected offices/civic activities: Board member, Know the Truth International Ministries.

Why should voters elect you? "My proven professional track record for success. I have the attitude, skill and knowledge necessary to serve our community with honesty, integrity, respect and dignity."

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "Traffic! Excessive commute times adversely affect our quality of life. Public safety officials are finding it increasingly difficult to meet their four- to six-minute targeted arrival for emergencies. This is simply a volume issue caused by the housing explosion in the areas surrounding the 8th District, coupled with poor planning for road development. Extending Metro to Loudoun, Prince William and western Fairfax counties is imperative. We need to improve the cost, travel times and convenience of using mass transit. Reducing auto personal property taxes for documented use of public transportation is also an option to be explored to increase usage."
