R. E. Bookwalter

Candidate for School Board

Age: 45

Residence: Manassas.

Education: BS, meteorology, Pennsylvania State University.

Occupation: Pilot, American Airlines.

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, Manassas Department of Social Services advisory board.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "It is time for change on the School Board. Manassas is at a pivotal moment and needs leaders who will be statesmen and not politicos. Manassas has great schools, and I want to ensure they remain that way. Parents, teachers and, most importantly, the children deserve honest, solid leadership on the School Board. The issues of discipline, curriculum, SOL testing, transportation, ESL and teacher pay are key to the success of our schools and well-being of our community. I will work hard to keep the focus on getting the best education for our children."

Why should voters elect you? "I am not a politician. I am a taxpayer and father who will bring common sense and reason to the School Board."
