What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "The most important issue facing Alexandria is the need for more restraint in city spending and property taxes without hurting important city services. As chairman of Alexandria's budget and fiscal affairs advisory committee and a member of that committee for seven years, I know the city budget well. I know where spending should be reduced, for example, through health care cost containment and reductions in excess administrative personnel in some departments. I would consider a freeze on the total number of city personnel and deferring some lower priority capital projects. We should learn from the best practices of other cities."

Why should voters elect you? "I offer expertise on the city budget and transportation, the perspective of an involved parent of public school students and proven dedication to my community."
