William G. Foster

Candidate for City Council

Age: 63

Residence: Chancery Square.

Education: BS, finance, Virginia Tech.

Occupation: Retired, banking and investments.

Elected offices/civic activities: Vice chairman, City of Fairfax Economic Development Authority; chairman, City of Fairfax Industrial Development Authority; former chairman, School Bond Referendum Committee; board member and investment committee chairman, Smithfield-Preston Foundation.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction? "Encouraging a vibrant economy, retaining our 'small-town charm' and making the tax burden as low and equitable as possible in the midst of the significant change in Northern Virginia will take hard work and a well-thought-out strategy. Our city needs to plan for commercial redevelopment. Revitalizing the look of our business district and attracting successful commercial ventures will benefit our city's services and realign our property tax base."

Why should voters elect you? "Investment in the community on various boards and committees coupled with my professional background in finance provides me qualifications and experience to offer the city."
