Elected offices/civic activities:

Member, Gaithersburg City Council, 1995-99, 2000-present;
member, Economic Development Committee and Task Force on Immigration, National League of Cities; member, Task Force on Eminent Domain (Md.); past member, Gaithersburg Planning Commission and Board

Why should voters elect you?

"I will approach all issues with an open mind — not an agenda — and be realistic and fair in my decisions; my planning experience successes serving Gaithersburg."

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"We need to control the pace of development in the county with a planning approach that is reasonable, practical and enforceable. Think of it as 'smart growth with a brain.' While no one wants unchecked growth, we still have to meet the demands of a growing population. If we overhaul the county's planning approval process and provide the necessary oversight, we can harness the opportunities that growth and development offer to attract new business and better jobs to our area, provide more affordable housing, land for new schools and improve the transportation infrastructure to help relieve gridlock."
