This public, nonprofit museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation, research and interpretation of the culture and natural history of Southern Maryland. Its mission is to interpret three maritime themes: regional Miocene paleontology, estuarine life on the tidal Patuxent River and Chesapeake Bay, and the maritime histories of these waters.
Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Yearís Day.
Adults, $7; seniors, $6; ages 5-12, $2; 4 and younger, free; members, free.

One of the original parishes of Maryland, Christ Church has been in existence at least since 1672, making it the oldest continuously worshiping congregation in Calvert County. The annual Calvert County Jousting Tournament is here on the last Saturday in August.

Built in 1828, Cove Point is the oldest continuously working lighthouse in Maryland. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
Hours: 1-4 p.m. weekdays from June-August and weekends May-September, via shuttle bus from museum only. Admission tickets and daily schedule available at the museum.

Built in 1883 to mark the entrance to the Patuxent River, the lighthouse was moved to the Calvert Marine Museum and restored in 1975. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily; closed New Yearís Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

A restored 1934 seafood packing house listed on the National Register of Historic Places and curated by the Calvert Marine Museum. It provides a history of the regionís seafood industry, displays of tools and gear and a boat-building exhibit.
Hours: 10 a.m.-noon and 12:30-4:30 p.m. daily June-August, and 10 a.m.-noon and 1-4:30 p.m.weekends only in May and September.

A 550-acre history and archaeology park and museum on the Patuxent River. Features woodland and riverside archaeology trails, farm exhibit building, picnic area and covered pavilion. The park is also home to the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory, which houses an extensive state collection. The pavilion hosts many public events throughout the year and can be rented for private functions. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hours: 10 a.m. -5 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays, April 15-Oct. 15. Free.

The oldest standing Methodist church in Calvert County was built in 1843 and named for the original surrounding community. A steeple was added in 1989 after evidence was found in the roof that one was part of the original plan.

Constructed from logs in 1865 with the help of the Freedmenís Bureau, the church served the black community and included a school. The church burned in 1893 and was rebuilt in 1928.

The Wm. B. Tennison is a nine-log sailing bugeye hull converted to powered buy-boat. The Tennison was built in 1899 by Frank Laird at Crabb Island, near Oriole. The boat is 60 feet 6 inches long on deck and has a beam of 17 feet 6 inches and a draft of 4 feet 6 inches. The wide beam and shoal draft, typical of the bugeye type, was well suited for oyster dredging on the shallow waters of the Chesapeake Bay. One-hour cruises around Solomons Harbor and the Patuxent River aboard this Coast Guard-licensed, long-hulled vessel are offered on the National Historic Landmark. Departs from the Calvert Marine Museum dock at 2 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays May to October. Additional cruises at 12:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays in July and August. On Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Columbus Day there will also be a 3:10 p.m. cruise.
$7; ages 5-12, $4; 4 and younger, free.
