The board sets school policy. It has five elected members, four members appointed by the mayor and two nonvoting student representatives. Board members serve part time. Business meetings are at 5 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings are on the fifth floor. Public comment is limited to two minutes per presentation, time permitting, at the beginning of each meeting. To address the board, call before the day of the meeting. Special meetings are called as needed.

The seven-member board is appointed by the mayor and has authorized the majority of the city’s independently operated public charter schools. It oversees 37 charter schools on 46 campuses. The board meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Monday of every month, except holidays.
