It is hard, when you're stuck in traffic on Interstate 270 or Rockville Pike, or somewhere on Wisconsin Avenue, to imagine that Montgomery County was once a rural community.

How do you get a county named after you? Well, it helps if you're a noble -- or a hero. That's what I discovered when I looked into where our local names came from. I discovered a lot of other things, too.
Of the hundreds of places to eat in Montgomery County, these are some of my favorites. This list is not encyclopedic. There are no rankings. These are just 10 places -- some are single restaurants and others are locations offering lots of choices -- that you should know about if you live here.
