Burke Lake is an 888-acre park that includes a 218-acre lake. There is fishing, boating (no gasoline-powered watercraft permitted), camping, a miniature train, carousel, outdoor volleyball courts, an 18-hole, par-3 golf course, an ice cream parlor, a snack bar and picnic areas with grills and playgrounds. No swimming. Nominal fees for some activities.

Frying Pan Farm Park includes Kidwell Farm, a working model farm typical of early 20th-century farms found in Fairfax County. The Great Falls Grange Hall, built in 1929, was a center for town assemblies, fundraisers and carnivals. Today, the hall is available for meetings, weddings and other events. The Old Schoolhouse adjacent to the hall was built in the 1890s and is also rented out. The surrounding eight-acre park has a picnic shelter, playground, and softball and soccer fields.

Hidden Oaks lies within the 52-acre Annandale Community Park. The woods surrounding the center feature an easy loop trail. Additional trails lead through the woods to two streams. The urban woodland exhibition features interactive stations, a children's corner and an indoor turtle pond. Hidden Oaks also has a resource library.

Huntley Meadows has 1,425 acres of natural habitats, including wetlands, meadows and mature forest. It is populated by fox, deer, beaver, otter and more than 200 species of birds. A boardwalk wends through wetlands, leading to an observation tower.

This 476-acre park includes an 18-acre lake and the Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole, an outdoor swimming pool with slides, flumes, sprays, showers and interactive play features encircled by a "lazy river" for tubing. The park also offers pedal-boat rentals, fishing, a carousel, campgrounds, trails, a playground and picnic areas. Swimming in the lake is prohibited.

The 1,814-acre park is on a peninsula that is home to an active heron rookery. It also attracts several other species of birds, including whistling swans, ducks and bald eagles. The park has a picnic area, a playground, a visitors center with exhibitions, hiking trails, fishing and car-top boat launch facilities. No swimming.

The center offers activities for adults, teenagers and children, including classes, lectures, study tours, exhibitions, performances and specialty shows. It also sponsors community events, including McLean Day at Lewinsville Park in May and Fourth of July fireworks at Langley High School. It is funded by residents of greater McLean through a real estate tax surcharge. The center also receives money from fees and charges and relies on volunteers, gifts and donations to expand its programs. An 11-member governing board oversees the center's budget and operation.
