Haymarket Day

This event, cosponsored by the Gainesville Ruritan Club and the Town of Haymarket, takes place the third Saturday in September and features food, entertainment and a parade through the streets of Haymarket.

Manassas National Battlefield Park hosts hikes and demonstrations for the anniversaries of the First and Second Battles of Manassas and other interpretive programs throughout the year. A Junior Ranger program for ages 5-12 is available through the visitors center, open daily from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. www.nps.gov/mana
The Manassas Museum offers Civil War weekends in the summer and living history demonstrations and exhibitions all year. Walking tours of Old Town Manassas are available in the spring and fall. 703-368-1873.

A day devoted to activities for children 3 and older and their parents, with exhibitions, food and information on park programs. The Expo will take place April 16. Admission fee: $2, ages 3 and older; free, ages 2 and younger.

The 23nd annual Fall Jubilee will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 1 on the streets of Old Town Manassas. It will feature food, entertainment, games and crafters.

Manassas Heritage Railway Festival

This annual event celebrates railroad history with memorabilia, rail excursions, exhibits, live music and food. The 10th annual event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4.

Along with this annual holiday parade through Old Town Manassas, the town celebrates with a Christmas tree lighting, hayrides, open houses at businesses, caroling and Santa Claus's arrival by train. Festivities begin Dec. 2 with the tree lighting. The parade is Dec. 3, and the merchants' open houses are Dec. 4.

Sponsored by the Nokesville Ruritan Club, Nokesville Day is held the third Saturday in May. It features a parade, crafts, food, children's activities and displays by nonprofit groups, clubs and other organizations.

The shows are held the first full weekend in June and the last full weekend in September. They feature works by artists and crafters from across the United States as well as food, light entertainment and a children's booth. Boat rides are available. No admission fee. Shuttle bus services are available from the commuter lots surrounding the town.

The 56th annual fair, which will be held Aug. 12-20 at the county fairgrounds, will include displays, performances, rides and animal displays.

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival
