Washington Post Poll Virginia Governors Race: October 2001
This Washington Post poll is based on telephone interviews with 1,010 randomly selected, self-identified likely voters in Virginia. It was conducted October 22-25, 2001. The margin of sampling error for overall results is plus or minus 3 percentage points. Fieldwork by TNS Intersearch of Horsham, PA.

17. As you may have heard, some people in Northern Virginia want to hold a local referendum election to decide whether to raise their sales taxes in order to pay for local transportation improvements.

Mark Warner favors allowing Northern Virginia to hold this election. He says voters in each region of the state should be able to decide for themselves whether or not they want to raise their taxes.

Mark Earley opposes allowing Northern Virginia to hold this election. He says he is opposed to any region in the state raising taxes, particularly during an economic slowdown.
