Family: Douglas Weik, spouse; one son. Why should the voters elect you? "Arlington offers excellent services for the lowest tax rate of any major locality in the Washington area. We are one of only 38 communities in the country with an Aaa/AAA bond rating. I am passionate about providing a first-rate public education. This year, the County Board made funds available to improve compensation and retirement for teachers. Improving pedestrian safety, curbing residential in-fill development and managing growth are areas I will continue to emphasize. Adopting a comprehensive watershed management plan is a top priority. For these quality of life issues and others, I ask for your vote in November." Tell us what you think is the most urgent problem facing Arlington. "Managing residential and commercial growth to maximize use of transportation infrastructure, increase affordable housing, provide retail services and blend into the character of surrounding neighborhoods." Tell us what you think is the most urgent problem facing Arlington. "The most urgent problem facing Arlington is the public school system. Too much is being spent on administrative costs. Fewer children should be administered Ritalin. More children in special education classes should be mainstreamed. Class size, particularly in grades K-2, should be decreased. Foreign languages should not be taught below third grade." E-mail address: Joszeth@yahoo.com

Residence: Ballston. Education: Certificate in Computer Programming, Strayer College, 1982; attended Georgetown University, 1978-82. Occupation: Technology professional, Internet consultant/webmaster, CompuTate. Elected offices/civic activities: Member, Arlington County Cable Television and Information Technology Advisory Commission; Ballston Partnership, member and former co-chair of Ballston Information Technology Showcase (Info.BITS); member, National Federation of Independent Businesses; member and sponsor, Arlington Coalition for Sensible Transportation; member, committee chair and After-School Enrichment Program Director instructor, Ashlawn Elementary Parent-Teacher Association. Family: Mary Tate, spouse; two daughters and one son. Why should the voters elect you? "The residents of Arlington have become concerned that their County Board leadership does not listen to their concerns, at the neighborhood level and countywide. I will reach decisions regarding new development, spending priorities and other issues only after thoroughly listening to community input and public comment. I will work to improve the sources, content and frequency of information generated by the county government and especially the County Board. Truthful and accurate information must be provided via electronic and traditional means to better inform the public of tax/fee issues, the budget process and the relationship between the County and School Boards." Tell us what you think is the most urgent problem facing Arlington. "Arrogant county leadership promoted by one-party rule. Having members of both political parties on the board would inject a new vitality into the decision-making process." Web site: www.TateforCountyBoard.com E-mail address: Scott@TateforCountyBoard.com
