The closing of the gap in student achievement between different groups of students is an important priority. We are improving our elementary gifted program. As chair, I initiated regular open office hours for the board and began a regular informative letter to school leaders. We have improved how we function as a board, helping us to focus on what's important and improve policy decisions. Finally, we have improved collaboration with the County Board, including a joint effort to improve pedestrian safety, especially for students." Tell us what you think is the school system's most urgent problem: "Ensuring that administrators, teachers, students, parents and the community work together most effectively to close the achievement gap and help all students achieve their potential."
