A Black Marine's Battle
Joseph Montgomery Jr., 80, a member of one of the first black Marine Corp units, the Montford Point Marines, attends the dedication ceremony for the WWII Memorial in Washington,. Though black marines were trained to fight, they were not allowed to serve in combat positions during the war. Most served in defense battalions or combat support companies. Joseph Montgomery was a Property Sgt. on Guam.
