Airport's Fight for Survival
Tuesday, October 23, 2001
Since the September 11 terrorist attacks, Freeway Airport in
Bowie, Md.,
has remained closed. Freeway, like five other small airports, sits
inside a FAA-designated 18-mile no-fly zone around Reagan National
Airport. Owner Stanley Rodenhauser was forced to lay off most of
the
airport's staff as he waits for the restrictions to be lifted. One
of
the remaining employees, Bruce Peck, a mechanic, fears that he
could be
next if the airport can't open soon.
