
| Massachussetts Redefines Marriage Monday, May. 18, 2004; 7:16 A.M. At midnight on May 17, Cambridge, Mass., became the first city in U.S. history to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The first marriage ceremonies were held later in the morning for couples who obtained court waivers of the state's three-day waiting period. Robyn Ochs and Margaret Preble attended the festivities in Cambridge and were the first couple licensed and married in Brookline, Mass.
