Boom Town, Vietnam (Part 1) Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005; 8:53 AM In Vietnam, more than half of the population is 30-years-old or younger. Walking the streets of Saigon, one can see this impatient youth generation barrel through the nightlife, their motorbikes rushing alongside an economic upswing that has made Vietnam one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Last winter, on this 30th anniversary year of the end of the Vietnam War, Tommy Nguyen -- a reporting intern for the Style and Metro sections of The Washington Post for two summers -- witnessed a booming country rise above its history. But with other needed reforms moving at a much slower pace, the young people in the country certainly have their challenges to face. So does the young reporter.
