At Last, It's Women First

Women's professional soccer debuted under crisp, cloudless skies at RFK Stadium yesterday.

Interviews: Ginger White, of Alexandria, Virginia, who coaches a girl's soccer team.

Washington Freedom forward Mia Hamm, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, who is the most high-profile player in women's soccer, describes the first game as a wonderful event.

In a post-game news conference, she credits the support of the fans for a successful kick-off of the newest professional sports league in the United States.
