Peru After Fujimori and Montesinos
Wednesday, March 7, 2001
Sensational videos of politicians taking bribes from CIA-backed spy chief Vladimir Montesinos have transfixed Peru in recent
weeks. With Montesinos now in hiding and former president Alberto Fujimori in exile, the Andean nation will vote for a new

democracy can recuperate but Jorge Santisevan, former human rights ombudsman, says the United States owes Peru a debt for
supporting its now-disgraced strongmen.
