About the survey: African American, Hispanic and Asian responses are based on a poll of a nationally representative sample of 1,709 adult respondents, including an oversample of minorities. The survey was sponsored by The Washington Post, the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and Harvard University and conducted by telephone March 8 – April 22. The total sample included 779 whites, 323 African Americans, 315 Hispanics and 254 Asians, and the margin of sampling error for each group is plus or minus four, six, seven and nine percentage points respectively. White responses to questions 46 and 47 are based on a separate national poll of 1,008 adult respondents conducted May 16 – 20. Margin of sampling error for these responses is plus or minus 4 percentage points. Sampling error is only one of many potential sources of error in these or any other public opinion polls.
