I AM VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.
As members of the police community (retired Prince George's County Police Department) and native Washingtonians, we acknowledge the sacrifice of these two men. Our prayers are with you.
To the families and friends,
Our sympathy and prayers go out to you in this time of grief.
To all the men and women who put themselves in the same
positions these two officers did, we thank you.
We know the pain of losing a father as we both lost our fathers in the past and our hearts go out to the children of the slain officers. Our fathers died of natural causes and to have lost them to violence in such a horrific manner, we cannot comprehend. We are saddened for the officers' families, friends, coworkers, as well as our country. Our deepest sympathies to the families and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Even though this may be of no comfort and nothing can ever bring them back, they gave their lives protecting our freedom and doing their jobs which, from what I have heard, they were proud to do. We are so very sorry for your loss.
May God be with you in your time of sorrow and please remember that a nation grieves with you, you are not alone. We must go forward as a nation together and keep near to our hearts the freedom that so many have given their lives for. We must never let anything or anyone take that away from us.
May God bless their brave souls and comfort
and keep their loved ones.
I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE MY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE FAMILIES. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

Thank you so much for your dedication. You gave your life so that so many could live. You are truly great American Heroes. From Tampa, we know the loss of police officers can move a community. I hope that the same respect goes to you guys.
America owes you a debt we can never repay.
Greater love hath no man than to give his life for his country.
May God bless you and keep you in His care.
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your well loved officers, Jacob J. Chestnut and John M.Gibson. They have well met the criteria for heroes. May God grant eternal rest for their souls.

To the families of officers Gibson and Chestnut:
My heart goes out to you in your time of bereavement. Although your hearts are broken, I know that you are very proud of these two men. They were acting in their capacity as police officers to keep others safe. I have a brother and many, many friends on the police force in the Midwest. This could have been any one of them. Please know that my prayers for you are constant. God bless you.
MY PRAYERS AND HEART FELT PAIN AND SORROW GO OUT TO BOTH FAMILIES IN THEIR TIMES OF TROUBLES. MY GOD TAKE THEM IN HIS ARMS AND HOLD THEM TIGHT FOR THEY ARE SO DESERVING OF THIS. MY GOD BE YOUR STRENGTH TO MAKE YOUR PAIN MORE BEARABLE IN THE DAYS TO COME. JUST KNOW THAT THEY BOTH ARE IN GODS HANDS AND THEY ARE ALRIGHT.
God Bless......my heart goes out to the Families...
To the families of Officer Chestnut and Jacobs. No words can express the feeling of losing a loved one. We can only find comfort in God's word where he says, I will never leave you or forsake in your darkest hour. Find comfort in knowing that you'll see them on the over side. May God's love comfort you.
To the families of Officers Gibson & Chestnut,
Our most sincere condolences go out to you as you deal with the loss of your loved ones. I will keep you in my prayers and hope you know that God is with you.
My heart and my prayers go out to both of their families.
Our warm, heart-felt condolences are extended to your family. We pray that God will give you the strength to carry on and to help you deal with thhis tragic lost. Stay strong and keep the loving memories of your husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and family member close to your heart. May God continue to Bless you!
My family is very, very proud of those who daily risk their lives to protect others.
We are grateful, but share your feelings about the inequity of their sacrifice.
We wish you and your loved ones love and peace in this difficult time.
Sincere condolences and deep sympathy for both families. These men were not merely victims but humans first.
You are all in my prayers.
My heart goes out to those who the slain officers left behind. We can only bow our heads gratefully for what those men sacrificed.
I SALUTE THESE BRAVE MEN; THEY ARE THE HOPE
OF OUR FUTURE.
My deepest sympathy for your loss. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.
To the families of officers John J. Gibson and
Jacob J. Chestnut, I extend my condolences.
My prayers are with you always for God's love
to fill your hearts and His Holy Spirit to
comfort your souls in your time of bereavement.
May the peace of God that surpasses all
understanding keep your hearts and minds
through Jesus Christ.
I would like to say to the families to hold on to each other and do not let the seeds of hate/anger take over the remaining precious years
of your lives. I,too, lost my father to violence. I did carry around these "seeds" for many years and they did nothing, but ate me up
inside and caused me to alienate people who tried to love me. But when I let go of those "seeds," the love I felt from people who cared
and loved me was overwhelming. Plus, I felt the love of my father- it was stronger and overpowering. I know he is always with me, protecting
and loving me even more than when he was here with me, if that is even possible. Love each other and know that your loved one is always
with you. He may not be here in flesh, but he is definitely here in spirit and in love.
May God grant you the strength and serenity to carry on your loved one legacy.
I can only imagine the pain you are feeling and even imaging brings me pain. As an older sister of a 26-year DC policeman, I have had the same fear for years. I have prayed for you every day and will continue to pray God's blessings upon you all. Officers Gibson and Chestnut are two brave and valiant men and I'm sure that even in your grief, you are proud of them. We, the people of the United States share your proudness.
This great country will never forget how these two officers stood bravely and gave their lives to protect our Capitol, our country, our freedom. God bless these two and may they rest in peace forever. God help their families heal from this great trauma and move ahead with their lives knowing that these men died in great honor.
The nation deeply appreciates your sacrifice and extends its condolences to your families. May your heroic actions be forever remembered.
God bless you and may you reside in the heroes'
place in Heaven forever.
Although I did not personally know the two fallen officers, I have in the past worked for Congress and have had friends in the Capitol police ranks. Words alone cannot express the feelings I have for them and their families. They have performed the ultimate sacrifice. To the families of the fallen heroes I can only say that although we as a nation cannot know the pain you are going through, we are all here for you and mourn with you. Reach out to your friends and family during this time of great pain and sadness. Continue to reach out after the initial period and throughout your lives, as you might find comfort in those around you. Although the pain will never leave you, it may lessen in time and you will be able to continue your lives as your loved ones would have wanted. The common thought that as long as their memories are constant and in your heart and mind, they are never truly gone. A hard concept to grasp at the moment, but one that you might find comforting in the future. I, as the rest of the world, are heartbroken and deeply saddened by this turn of events. God bless you and yours and may the memories and good thoughts of these two men be remembered forever.
Officers' Gibson and Chesnut will be truly missed by the nation. They spent their lives protecting and defending our nation and people, and gave their lives for our safety and well being. And for this we love you, honor you and will miss you both dearly. These two men were Fathers', Brothers', Sons' and Heroes.
I was grieve stricken to here this unfortunate
incident. I am so relieved to know that we have
heros as officers protecting us everyday. I can
only imagine the pain and suffering that both families
are feeling. My prayers go out to you.
In memory of Officers Chestnut and Gibson.
Thank You!
To the families of Officer Chestnut and Officer
Gibson, please accept our deepest condolences as
you must now find the will and strength to get
through this horrific injustice. Our hearts and
prayers go out to the families, especially,
to the children. As a parent myself, there is
no greater pain for a parent then to see our
children suffer from a loss of this magnitude.
Find strength through Jesus Christ our Lord.
As a former U.S. Congressional employee I too have experienced the brotherly love of our own capitol police.
This has touched me deeply and I would like to take this time to let you know that you and your families are in my prayers.
Although we are only newly moved to the area, we have visited many times. The brave actions by Officers Gibson and Chestnut have moved us deeply. As parents with young children, their heroism and ultimate sacrifice is much appreciated. Our prayers and our heartfelt condolences go to their families, their co-workers and their friends. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
Victoria A. Williams and family.
Thinking of you with love and profound gratitude.
To the families of officers Jacob J. Chesnut and John M. Gibson, our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of sorrow. May GOD strengthen you and everyone that has been touched by this terrible tragedy.
To the Gibson & Chestnut Families,
What can you say to two families who have each lost a husband and father?
Please find some small comfort in the fact that Americans everywhere are proud to call Mr. Gibson and Mr. Chestnut heroes, and are eternally grateful for their bravery and sacrifice so that we can live in freedom.
May God be with you all.
I feel really bad for the officers killed in the line of duty. BUT, it happens every day in cities and towns across the country. These 2 officers should get the same treatment as the rest of the cops killed in the line of duty. nothing more nothing less.
I'm very sorry to here about your losses. The news I heard about the Capitol was very heart breaking. I want you to know that I am praying for you.
My heart goes out to the families that lost
these fine, fine men. I cannot get this tragedy
out of my mind, and the tremendous heartache
for all who knew these men personally. I am
praying for your hearts to heal from the pain
that I know is so unimaginable.
To the Family and Loved ones of Officer Jacob J. Chestnut and Officer John M.
Gibson,
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers of sympathy are with you during this difficult time.
I know it won't be easy as the pain of losing someone you love so dearly is almost unbearable,
just put your trust and faith in our Heavenly Father and everything will be all right.
With deepest sympathy,
To the families of these brave law officers: we
pray for peace for you in your loss. All Americans
mourn with you, and we honor their bravery and
sacrifice.
My blessings go out to the families of the slain officers.
May they be strong in this time of grief. They have gone
to a better place than on this earth.
There are not words to express the sorrow that
I feel over the loss of two such dedicated law
enforcement officers. So many of us who work on
Capitol Hill take for granted the security force
that guards it. This past week has served as a
reminder of how important the Capitol Police are
to all of us. Thank you to all of them. God be
with the Gibson and Chestnut families, as well as
the Capitol Hill Police family as they deal with
this tragic loss.
Our prayers are with the families of the officers. They chose careers that are selfless and exemplified honor and integrity.
Truly an example of goodness and mercy persevering in an otherwise corrupt environment.
"When a life is lost, there is nothing on earth
that can fill the void that is created." John Hulede.
Life is so precious yet most times taken for
granted. May the Almighty fill the void that has
been created in your lives.
My sympathies to both families of the officers
killed in the line of duty protecting our
government officials.
May they rest in peace in honor and glory.
The families of Officers Jacob Chestnut and John Gibson
share my grief at their loss. It is also our nation's loss.
But while outraged at the actions of a very disturbed person,
I am also thankful that we live in a country
where we are free to move about and have free access.
I thank people like Officers Chestnut and Gibson to protect us.
My deepest sympathies and prayers.
no words could ever right how you have been wronged. Thank you for your lives. God bless your families.
To the families of John M. Gibson and Jacob J.
Chestnut, I am deeply sadden with your lost.
This is a truly difficult time for your family
as well as the entire nation. My heart goes out
to you. Please remember that time heals, and
that "Tomorrow is another day".
To the families of Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut:
May the Good Lord bless you, watch over you, and nourish your souls
during your grief! The sacrifices of your beloved have helped
the United States of America enormously, and their courage in the
face of evil unmasked stand as shining examples to the Nation!
We thank them!
I would just like to thank these brave men and
their families for their incredible sacrifice.
My heart goes out to them, and may they find
peace as we all try to comprehend this
incomprehensible act.

The honor and bravery of your sacrifice humbles all of us. Thank you. You will not be forgotten.
THE FAMILIES AND EVEN THE COUNTRY SHOULD BE PROUD OF THESE TWO GUYS, WHO GAVE THERE LIVES PROTECTING OTHERS. THE CRAZED MAN WHO DID NOT EVEN GIVE THEM A FAIR CHANCE, WILL HAVE TO ANSWER TO AN EVEN HIGHER FORCE THAN THOSE OF HERE ON EARTH.
GOD BLESS THOSE WHO HAVE DIED AND BEEN INJURED, GOD GIVE STRENGTH TO THE FAMILIES AND FRIENDS OF THOSE WHO NEED IT..
My heartfelt condolences go out to the Chestnut
and Gibson family. These officers did their job
and lost their lives protecting the
people's house -- the seat of democracy. We all
feel the loss.
My deepest sympathy goes out to the Chestnut and Gibson families. The heroic actions of these two men make this dangerous world we live in a little safer.
We will never be able to express in words the
sorrow we feel for the families of Officers
Gibson and Chestnut. Our hearts go out to them
and to all the men and women who daily put their
lives on the line to protect the public. May
we never forget the sacrifices they made.
May God in all His infinite wisdom, mercy, and love comfort your families in this, your hour of sorrow.
May the wonderful memories you shared throughout the years sustain and keep you. May the love, comfort,
and peace of the Lord help you in dealing with the grief, anger, and loss and that you are experiencing.
My prayers are with you all.
I would like to send my condolences out to Mr. Gibson and Mr. Chestnuts' families my heart and prayers are with you.
Dear Gibson and Chestnut Families,
Please let me simply say how deeply moved I was by John's and Jacob's selfless acts. I used to work for the US Senate and always felt very secure because of the police officers who guarded the Capitol and the congressional office buildings. Their deaths touched me very deeply. Please know you are in my prayers as well as those of my family. God bless.
Officers M. Gibson and Jacob J. Chestnut it is
because of heroes like you that we all Americans
in particular and the world in general live in
peace, happiness and prosperity.
I wish there was a better way to protect you
while you were and your fellow officers are
on line of duty.
May God give solace to your families and you
rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to the families of these officers.
It is now that you can begin to discover the wonder
working power of God and lean not unto your own
understanding but to His. It is a great lost
not only for you but for us as well. My prayers are
with you and well wishes to you all.
There is only one person who knows why these two dedicated officers,
loving family men, trusted friends were called home on Friday, July 24, 1998.
And all the knowledge I have in my body and soul tells me not to question his decision
why they left this earth so soon and so tragically. My heart goes out to the love ones
left behind to put their own lives back together after so a tremendous lost that will
have a life time effect. I can only offer these words of comfort to both families.
"They are in no more pain, as they stand guard at the house of the Lord together".
May God answer your prayers and bless you dearly.
My condolences go out to the families, friends, and
coworkers of the two slain officers, Mr. Gibson and
Mr. Chestnut. My prayers are with their families
and may they rest in peace.

There Are No Words That Can Express Our Sympathy To The Gibson And Chestnut Families.
The Spirit Of The Slain Officers Will Live Forever.
To the families of officers Gibson and Chestnut,
May you find comfort in the thoughts of the nation who shares in your grief. It is such a senseless, tragic act that has caused such suffering, but the nation stands behind you. Best wishes for the future.
To the families of officers John M. Gibson and Jacob J. Chestnut, I wish to expresss my sincere sorrow at your loss of a father, husband, son, uncle and nephew. May God bless you during this difficult time and may you find assurance in the fact that our nation mourns with you.
My deepest sympathy and condolence to the families of officers John M. Gibson and Jacob J. Chestnut. And may God bless all of you.
It is hard to loose a loved one. I know this because I lost five ( 2 nephews, a sister, mother and father) during an eighteen month time period. I invited GOD into my life years ago. When I was going through this grieving period I became very depressed. I was not deterred from praying, however. One morning, as I lay there watching the sunrise, I asked GOD why? Why did my sister leave me? Why did my Mom have to go then? Why didn't Daddy know I needed him? As the tears began to flow uncontrollably, I heard a small still voice say to me "their work is finished..it is time for them to rest". I knew, without question, I heard the voice of GOD. It was encouraging for me to know my loved ones were resting. They were at peace. I lost my selfish perspective of focusing on my lost by focusing on their gain. There are those who do not believe in GOD or will not openingly admit they do. I want the world to know I know and love Jesus, the one who first loved me. I am grateful to GOD for the knowledge that this
world in but a stepping stone. This world does not define us, rather, it provides us the necessary frame of reference to know we have an opportunity for something much better. GOD Bless you always! I shall keep all of you and your need for comfort in my prayers.
Our prayers and condolences to the families, friends, and coworkers of these men; but then, in a very real sense, we are all their friends.
It's an almost-unspoken feature of law enforcement, particularly uniformed law enforcement, that one function of the uniform is to draw fire away from civilians. Officer Chestnut donned a bull's-eye every day, and apparently loved his job. Detective Gibson also accepted the risk in order to protect the public safety. "The last full measure of devotion" is as applicable a phrase today as it was 130-odd years ago. We cannot help but be grateful for their sacrifice, and deeply mourn the loss of such men.
There is a special place in Heaven for Police Officers. Go with God.
you are not heroes because you are gone, you are heroes
for what you did while you were with us.
I feel deeply sorry to what has happened to these brave gentlemen. Please accept my sincere condolences.
You are not heroes because you are gone, you are heroes
for what you did while you were with us.
I'd like to send my condolences to the families of both of these
brave officers. Many could have died if it were not for their
bravery and expertise in performing their job. Please know that they are home
now where no harm can come to them. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I would like to send my condolences to the
Family of John Gibson and Jacob Chestnut.
Look to the Lord for your strength and
everything will be just fine. The lord will
never give us more than we can handle.
Remember to be absent in the body is to be
present with the Lord.
MY HEART AND SOUL GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY AND CO-WORKERS
OF TWO HEROS. BLESSED BE THEIR NAMES
What fine men. May the examples that they have set for all continue to be a guiding light for many to follow. May God bless their families and friends at this time.
I would like to give my condolences to the families
of both officers. I just wanted to tell you keep the
faith. Your husbands are good men. They served their
country well. Even though they lost their lives,
they saved a lot of others. Be very proud!
God has called for the both of his children to come home with him. This is a time for happiness and not sorrow, so I give my blessing to each of their homecoming. For our God is good and he knows whats best for all of us. Heaven is a better place to be for these two gentlemen because God has called for them. They have served their purpose here on earth and must move on to a better place. I send my condolences to each their families.
I worked at the Senate during college and law school. I got to be friends with many of the officers and valued them greatly. They made me feel not only safe but cared for in so many ways. Nothing I can say or do will bring these two heroes back to their families, but I will pray for them and their families and honor their memories.
MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU IN HIS CARE IN THIS TIME OF SORROW . MY PRAYER'S ARE
ALWAYS WITH YOU.
FROM THE DISBURSEMENTS DEPT AT
MCI ARLINGTON OFFICE
You have my family and my deepest sympathy for Officer Chestnut and Officer Gibsons tragic and untimely deaths. We never know why these things happen, all we can say is that God has his own time and reasons for doing what he does, and believe me God makes no mistakes.
I pray for the families left behind and that God will give them the strength to deal with this tragedy. I believe the two officer are with God know and all we can do is pray for their souls and also that justice is done.
As a former employee of both the
U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of
Representatives, I salute the unselfish and
courageous devotion to duty--the true
herosim--displayed by
Officers Chestnut and Gibson. They will be
remembered always by everyone who has been part
of the Capitol Hill community.
My husband and I just arrived in Manchester NH airport when my brother informed us of the shooting at the US Capitol. Being MD residents and bringing many visitors to the Capital building I was shocked and saddened to hear of the deaths of officers Gibson and Chestnut. Our hearts go out to the families of these brave men. In my mind they are heros, little comfort to their loved ones, but they will be remembered as such.
Thank you for your courage and sacrifice! I know you are both in Heaven with the Lord! God bless and guide your families in their time of grief and sorrow!
...with your uncommon acts of bravery, I now know what it means to be a true american, and a true human being. I can only hope and pray that I become half the men you were.
My prayers are with both families. Your loved ones are in a better place now and not in pain. My God be with you all as they are with Him now.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

The day God Called you home.

Thank you for a job well done. Your heroic actions in defending the U.S. Capitol are a prime example of why law officers everywhere deserve our gratitude and respect.
I know that nothing I can say can take away or ease the pain of your loss. The only words of comfort I can think of are that the pain will become easier to bear over time and that your loved ones are now loved and missed by an entire nation. You are not alone, we are here anytime you need us.
May God be with you'll and your families as you move thorough this times of Personal and National tragedy.
The Stover family would like to send our condolences to the Gibson and Chestnut families.
Please extend my sincere sympathy to the Chestnut and Gibson families. My prayers are with them.
Please convey my heartfelt condolences to families of these two fine Americans and brave officers. The security of the People's House was greatly served by their actions. We often forget was the costs of our freedom really are. The loss of Officer Chestnut and Detective Gibson is a cold reminder that we all must serve our democracy in order to keep it. It needs our constant care and vigilance. We, the American People, owe these men a sincere debt of gratitude. Their actions give us the true definition of valor.
It may be extremely small consolation, but I
can think of no more honorable way to lose
one's life that protecting and shielding others
in a place like the U.S. Capitol. The slain
officers truly fit the definition of heroes.
I pray that their families can hold on to that
truth through the grieving process and beyond.
I am very grateful for their courage and
willingness to protect others.
My condolences to the families of the two officers killed last week in defending the many people who work/visit the capitol. May God bless you at this time when you need him the most. May He bring you comfort and understanding that an entire Nation is with you at this time.
