Capitol Police officers John M. Gibson, left, and Jacob J. Chestnut were killed during the shooting at the U.S. Capitol. Your condolences are posted below. You may continue to send your condolences. Check back for more postings.
My prayers are with both families of
these officers during this time of sorrow.
I AM VERY SAD AND DISTRAUGHT BY THE NATURE OF THEIR DEATH.
MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY OF THESE OFFICERS. MY BLESSING GOES
OUT TO YOU!!
My condolences to the family of these brave office.
May god bless you, and watch over you all in this time of need.
May God send their families peace, comfort and
strength as they rebuild their lives. Men like
Officers Gibson and Chestnut give us a high
standard to live up to. I hope that if I am
ever faced with a similar situation, I will
not disappoint them.
Two men volunteering to risk their lives for a nation not able to express enough gratitude to these two men. May the families succeed in pulling together despite the hardships and pain.
May the Lord keep you and your love ones in your
time of sorrow. Officer Chestnut and Officer
Gibson will be remember at Mass on 8/02/89.
My thoughts and prayers are with your families during this horrendous time in your lives. I know what it is like to lose a loved one, I lost my mother on 5/9 and it was very painful. I hope you can find solace in the fact that by giving their lives for their country, they died honorably and that the country thanks you for your loss.
I am an investigator with the District Attorney's Office in Raleigh, N.C. We have experience our own sadness with the loss of an officer in the last year. My sympathies to the families of both officers, as well as to the colleagues and friends of the Officers Gibson and Chestnut. I have learned through our experience here that other officers are victims also in that they will not be the same after this incident. God bless you all.
My heartfelt sympathy for the families of these two heroic officers. Officers Chestnut and Gibson have made the ultimate sacrifice so that ordinary people can feel safe in our nation's capital. I pray their families will somehow sustain this terrible loss.
To the families of Officers John Gibson and Jacob Chestnut,
Be proud that your loved one will be known forever
for their bravery. Their service saved the lives of many people.
My prayers are with you to get through this difficult time.
May God bless you and keep you.
My family and I extend our deepest sympathies to
the Capitol Police Department and especially to the
families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut. No police
department, no family, no one individual should
ever have to face a tragedy such as this. The entire
nation mourns with you at loss of two fine men.
I was so sorry to hear about the tragic death of
Mr. Gibson and Mr. Chestnut. My condolences
and prayers go out to the families. May they
know the peace and courage that only God can
give in a situation as tragic as this one.
May God bless you all.
With deepest sympathy.
David
WE WILL KEEP YOU IN OUR PRAYERS,MAY GOD GIVE YOU
PEACE AND COMFORT AND THE STRENGTH YOU NEED IN
THIS TIME OF SORROW.
To the Gibson and Chestnut Families:
My deepest sympathy goes to each of you. Please know that many, many people around the country have you in their thoughts and prayers. I'm sad that this great country is so violent. Let's all remember to care for one another and to live each day to the fullest. Warmly, Liz Keegan
My condolences go out to both families. I know it will be hard, but remember "They are in a better place", and they will be treated like kings and the hero's that they are.
From the members of the Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA), Chapter 102 and A102, our deepest sympathies and condolences go to the family of Jacob J. Chestnut, a fallen Air Force comrade and life member of AFSA and Chapter 102.
I'm so very sorry for the loss two of great
men/policemen to their families and loved ones.
REMEMBER THIS "God didn't place on his earth
just to help themselves but also to help
others" They are real American's
REST IN PEACE
You are constantly in my thoughts and prayers. May you be comforted to know that others are concerned for you and share your loss. May God bless and keep you through these times.
My condolences to both families. This was really a
shocking tragedy. Having lived in the DC metropolitan
area for 15 years, we really took for granted that
we were relatively safe when we visited the many
wonderful things in the Capitol area. Seeing this
happen makes one painfully aware of how quickly,
without reason, that can change. The officers
did their duty and their memory should be honored.
My prayers are with the families and friends of these
brave men.
My name is Anna Marie Griffith and I'm sorry for what happened to these hero's that picture stand before me. That was a terrible tragedy. They have already been rewarded in the best way possible, their in HEAVEN!
My Condolences go out to both families
I would like to express my heartfelt sympathy for the families, friends and co-workers of the slain officers. Always hold in your hearts the memories and they will live on forever. I know they are at peace now.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEND OUT MY CONDOLENCE TO THE
FAMILIES OF BOTH THE OFFICERS WHICH WERE KILLED
PROTECTING OTHERS. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE BOTH
VERY SPECIAL INDIVIDUALS FOR PUTTING THEIR LIFE
ON THE LINE SO OTHERS WOULD NOT GET HURT. THE
FAMILIES OF THE OFFICERS SHOULD REMEMBER ALWAYS
THE SACRIFICE THEIR LOVE ONE MADE SO OTHER MIGHT
LIVE. GOD WILL BLESS AND KEEP YOU THROUGH THIS
TIME OF SORROW; BUT REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE SO MANY
PEOPLE THAT ARE PRAYING FOR YOU.
MAY GOD FULL YOUR HEART AND MIND WITH PEACE.
(I HAVE A FAVORITE SONG THAT GETS ME THROUGH
TIMES LIKE THESE: "ACCEPT WHAT GOD ALLOWS"
IT MINISTERS TO THE SOUL)
My family and I grieve for the Gibson and Chestnut families. We are also very proud of them and for what they did to protect the people at the U.S. Capitol. They and their families are in our prayers.
I visited the Capitol several years ago. I was a memorable experience. It was my first time in Washington and definitely something I wanted to see. I was made possible by officers such as Gibson and Chestnut. Their service is important to all of us who value democracy. Thank you to all who serve. I is unfortunate that a tragedy must bring us to a time of reflection about the value of that service. My prayers go to the families and all those who work in the Capitol.
I did not know you but will truly miss you.
I know you did your best and your family is VERY
proud of you. No one knows what makes people do what
they do, but God will take care of you your families.
REST IN PEACE OFFICERS GIBSON AND CHESTNUTT.
My sympathy AND prayers to the families.
God Bless you and give you the strength
you need now and in the future to get through
this.
To both the Gibson and Chesnut families,
my sincerest condolences. No words can take
away from the pain you feel or the sorrow that
we feel as a nation.
My uncle, Michael Simler, used to be with the
Capitol Police and he remembers both men well.
He has had nothing but kinds words for them.
I can only believe that Mr. Gibson and Mr.
Chesnut are in a better place. Although this
senseless act has taken these men, I believe
that they are going on to do even bigger and
better things.
You are all in my thoughts and in my prayers.
God bless you all!
I would like to express my sincere condolences to the
Chestnut & Gibson families. Take to heart that God is always
by your side, he will never leave you. He will bless
you and your children forever.
My heart and prayers go out to the friends and families of these fallen officers. As a police officer's wife myself, each time something like this happens it rocks me to the core.
We must stop killing our protectors.
My condolences to the families of officer Gibson and officer Chestnut. Both men were examples of true American bravery and set an example to others. I hope there sacrifice and there commitment to duty will live long in the memories of the American People.
Far too often men live lives that are mediocre,
and are buried with their dreams still inside
them.
However, when a man has the opportunity to save
a life, and he is put in position to have to
possibly give his life to do it, then there can
be no higher calling.
There is no greater amount of prestige, honor,
money, notoriety, or fame that a man could ever
strive for; therefore, these MEN achieved all
a man could ever want. I'm sure their dream was
not to get killed in the line of duty, but when
the time came, and they were put into a position
to act, they surely gave life their all.
I know the families must grieve for the loss of
their loved ones, and I pray that they know GOD,
and have the faith that they will one day
see them again. My heart goes out to them, and
I will say a prayer for them.
AS FELLOW FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, WE SHARE IN THE GRIEF OF THE OFFICERS' FAMILIES AND OFFER OUR PRAYERS AND DEEPEST SYMPATHIES.
Your families are in our prayers.
I just wanted to send my most deepest sympathy to the families of the capitol police who were slain.
This is a tragedy, both for the nation and the families of the officers. It is a shame that their children will have to grow up without fathers.
Try to stay strong, and be comforted in the knowledge that you are in the prayers of a nation.
The Bible says in Psalm 91:1 "He who dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
At this time I'd like express my deepest condolence to the families of Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut. The slain
officers will always be remembered by not only their family, but by the nation as they lost their life protecting others.
God said to himself "well done Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut, it's time to come home". I wish both families well
know that others feel your pain.
Prayers and deepest sympathy go out to the family
and friends of slain Capitol Police officers John
Gibson and Jacob Chestnut who died helping to preserve
our personal freedom. God bless America as well
as John and Jacob.
To the respective families of Officers J.J. Chestnut and J.M. Gibson, our prayers and thoughts are with you as move on to the next phase. It is never easy, but knowing and believing that they each did what they had been trained to do, be proud and thankful for the time you shared.
My deepest condolence to the families of officers Gibson and Chestnut.
Let us all remember that they lived and died protecting their country.
They are at peace now.
I was in Honolulu on two weeks active duty training with the Navy when I saw the news on CNN. My condolences to the families of these fine police officers. I used to live only a few blocks from the Capitol and always thrilled at the sight. How sad that there are no safe or sacred places left!
Our Prayer -- is that the words of Psalms 91 bring you immense comfort and that the Almighty God who knows our every need wrap his loving arms around you.
Forever, we will remember your lost.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families of
officers Gibson and Chestnut. I admire these officers for risking their lives in order to save so many others. May god bless the families of these victims.
May God keep you strong in this grieving time. May they both be remembered for their courage, their citizenship, their dedication, and commitment. The fathers, husbands, sons, friends and neighbors that they both were. America is truly touched by the way these two gentlemen defended the visitors, and employees of the capitol. Thank God for these two touching all of our soles, and reminding us of the good there is still in this world. I know that they both have a special job lined up for them in the house of the Lord.
Where they will dwell forever, and ever.
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in
God, believe also in me. In my Father's house
are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have
not told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am
there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and
the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lore, we know
not whither thou goest; and how we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and
the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:1-6
GOD BLESS
I'm truly sorry for the loss of life for Officers Gibson and Chestnut. I feel for their families too.
To:The families of the brave and heroic officers
As a sister to a law enforcement member my heart
goes out to you. It is hard to deal with and
the whole country has you in our prayers. There will never be a true explanation of why.
We need to just keep the faith and hope that tomorrow will be a brighter day for all of us.May GOd continue to watch over you....
To the Gibson and Chestnut Families,
We were shocked and saddened as the events of Friday unfolded. Even though we are strangers, our hearts go out to you. These men were men of integrity. They, and you, have our deepest respect and our sincerest prayers during this time.
As a former Hill staffer, and, most importantly, a family member in Christ, I extend my heartfelt sympathy for the families of these brave and dedicated officers. I pray that God will bless them with the peace they need to endure this painful time in their lives and to, one day, find comfort in their fond memories.
May we all be forever grateful to these men for their valor.
God bless.
I would like to thank these Officer's and their
families for the supreme sacrifice they have given.
My prayers are forever with them.
If I have ever passed either of these men on the street, they were just a second in my mind. After giving their lives defending our nations capital, they will be forever in my heart.
It is the valor of Officers Chestnut and Gibson that we, as a nation, should use as an example of how to protect one another. To the families of these two fine men, I send my deepest sympathy. May God bless you and keep you.
As the wife of a police officer, I have a special
place in my heart for the families of the two officers.
My family and I will keep them in our prayers. I ask
that everyone keep all police officers in their
prayers daily, so that no one else should suffer the
way these families are suffering.
My heart is very sad and heavy with the passing of these dear loved ones.
I am the mother of a Capital Hill Police Officer (James R. Graham) and it was only through the Grace of GOD, my son was not hurt.
I pray for the families and friends of these men that they may find comfort as they try to deal with this tragic situation and may their souls rest in peace.
My deepest sympathy goes to the families of Jacob
Chestnut and John Gibson. Their sacrifice shows
us the dedication and pride these officers feel.
The families of Police Officers except this with
the hope their loved ones will return home each
day. They are in my thoughts and prayers.
To the family of the slain officers:
My prayers are with you in your time of sorrow. Hopefully you will find
comfort knowing that they lost their lives trying to save others and that
they were true heroes. They lived their lives as men but died just as
God did and for that they will receive their heavenly reward.
May God bless and keep you always.
To the Family of Mr. Gibson and Mr. Chestnut: The dedication to the defense of our liberties as displayed by their courageous acts speaks volumes for what it means to be a freedom-loving American. Their actions allow the United States to remain a free society just as surely as if they were struck down in a combat action on some distant shore. May God give you peace and may you find solace in the words of our Lord as spoken in Psalm 23 and John 3:16.
I would like to send my condolences to the family of officers Gibson and Chestnut and to the Capitol Police.
It was a shock that this could happen in OUR Capitol building. I would like to join with the rest of the country in expressing my sorrow for their loss.
I would just like to send my sincere and heartfelt condolences to the families of Jacob Chestnut and Thomas Gibson. These two fine officers gave the ultimate gift last week -- the gift of life. For their unfailing dedication to duty they will be rewarded with a place in heaven. Memory eternal.
To the families of Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut I give you my deepest sympathy.
To the loving families of these slain, brave men - OUR HEROES: The hearts and minds of the people of this nation are surely with you at this time. May the love and comfort of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ be with you today and in all your tomorrows; He who has brought us out of darkness into His marvelous light; He who promised He would never leave us nor forsake us. I pray you will remember these things. And may your memories always bring you joy. We love you.
It is with deep sorrow that again I have to watch Police (Peace) Officers cut down by senseless violence. This country has lost respect for those who wear blue. They protect us so that we might live in comfort, sheltered from the daily violence and mayhem that is a daily routine. We shall not forget these braves souls who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We are eternally in their debt. May the peace of God, be with them, their families, and the soldiers in blue who continue to protect us.
I AM SO VERY SORRY FOR YOUR FAMILIES LOSSES.
FRANCES
My Prayers go out to the family of officers Gibson, & Chestnut. I'm a member of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept. Volunteer of Citizen's Patrol, Lander's, Flamingo Heights. Romans 13:3 "For the policeman dose not frighten people who are doing right." Betty Butler, Yucca Valley, California
Officers Gibson and Chestnut are true heroes and ones our young children should look up to. They gave their lives as the ultimate sacrifice to their country.
To officers Gibson and Chesnut, may God receive you with open arms. Grace, strength, and peace to your respective families at this time.
Its is sad occasion when we stop to mourn that loss of a hero. Any man or woman that puts his/her life on the line to protect the lives of others deserves the praise and admiration of the people of the country they are protecting. We all feel the sadness when there is an unneeded loss of life in the line of duty. We thank all of those who give of them selves to preserve this land we call home. Our condolences go to their families because this is a life that will not be replaced. Thank you and God bless all those that protect and serve our nation.
Only in a truly blessed country are such great
men willing to give their lives to safeguard that
which we hold dear. May their sacrifice remind us
of the high price of liberty and the debt of gratitude
we owe to all who endeavor to keep our country
safe and free. May they rest in peace.
God Bless You and Keep You in this tragic time.
You and your families are in my prayers.
I do not know either of the slain officers, but their death and heroism has touched me. I was especially moved by Representative Armey's speech last night on the floor of the House. I offer my condolences to the friends and families of these fine men.
I send my heartfelt condolences to the families of Officers John Gibson and Jacob Chestnut. The tragic loss of these men to their families and our country can never be compensated. God bless them all.
There is no greater sacrifice than to give one's life protecting the freedoms we hold so closely to our hearts. May God Bless You!
May God be with your families.
I know you are with Him.
i lost my dad 15 months ago. i sure miss him.
my prayers are with you.
You will live in our hearts forever...
The ultimate sacrifice that Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut
paid was not and will never have been without purpose.
The sacrifice of their families is a debt the American people
cannot ever repay but must never forget.

John and Jacob are both greatly respected for their contributions in keeping the Capitol building a safe place for people to visit. We are sorry to lose two of D.C.'s finest.
My prayers are with the officers and their families, these great men died protecting the lives of others. They are the true heroes in this world.
My Sincere Sympathy to the families of Officers Chestnut and Gibson. May the memories sustain you through this trying time and our prayers are with you.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR BRAVERY ON CONFINEING THE INCIDENT TO A SMALL AREA OF THE CAPITAL AND NOT ENDANGERING MORE PEOPLE THAN THEIR WAS. MY CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO THE FAMILIES OF THESE TWO BRAVE MEN. MAY GOD REST THEIR SOUL'S!
Never since JFK was assassinated, have I felt
such sorrow over someone being killed. These
men were on the front line guarding the White
House, and were killed by a sick and demented
man. Please accept my sincere apologies and
sympathy for the families of the two officers
Each of us have lost a loved one. How do you find peace when all that surrounds you seems to dark and lonely? Sorrow and heart-ache are never pleasant, but God has a solution. He is your peace and strength. When you call out to Him, He will answer you. He will comfort you. Let God be your strength. He has healing his His hands. Let Him take your trouble and use it to draw you closer to Him, where there is hope and eternal peace. I speak from experience. Although it will not be easy, God will ease your burdens. No amount of words can bring back your loved ones but I just wanted to tell you that God does not make mistakes. Obviously, he needed more angels in Heaven and asked Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut to return Home to Glory. May God continue to bless and strengthen you. You will be my prayers.
Officers Chestnut and Gibson are true heroes.
May the Good Lord take care of them
and reward them for the ultimate sacrifice they
made. I am praying for their families
who are suffering. May they find strength,
courage and peace at this difficult time.
I have tried to write this letter of condolence but no words can describe the
sorry I feel for the family of theses fallen officers. To protect
and serve and sacrifice ones life for the safety and security of "guest" to
our Nation's Capitol is the greatest honor one could give. I will keep your families'
in my prayers. You two are already safe in God's care.
To the Families of Officer Gibson and Chestnut:
Your families have been in my prayers. My heart and soul are heavy
with grief for you. I pray that our dear God will comfort you at this very difficult
time. I stand, as I am sure with all of America, in deep deep gratitude for
their courageous, selfless acts in preserving the integrity
of our Country's freedom. We as Americans, can never repay you for your
personal loss. We can only stand in awe and admiration in remembering
the great sacrifice that has been displayed and now ALL OF AMERICA
will be looking at our Nation's Capitol with new found respect and
appreciation. For this I personally thank you.
Truly, the definition of heroism and patriotism has been soberly
re-defined through the sacrifice of these great men. Thank you for
being so brave and may the Lord Jesus Christ give you
strength and peace in the days ahead.
God Bless You.
To the families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut:
May God watch over you and protect you and your
family. I will keep you in my prayers.
I would like to send my sincere condolences to the families of the officers killed on Friday. The bravery these officers displayed is a tribute to their often unappreciated professional responsibilities. It takes unbelievable discipline to come to work day in and day out always wondering in back of your mind when trouble could occur. Knowing that if you relax one second it could be one second to long. Luckily, for the people at the Capitol this horrible day, they were doing business as usual.
May God Bless the Spirits of Officers Chestnut
and Gibson for their courageous, and diligent service
in protecting the lives of those who work and
visit the US Capitol, "The Peoples House". Also,
God Bless the family and friends of these two men.
During this time of bereavement, we pray that the Lord
will guide you to healing, peace and understanding.
I've heard it stated that "you were just doing your jobs...doing what was expected of you, in the line of duty." I believe you went above and beyond your call of duty. You paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect one of our most revered establishments. You protected the innocents who happened to be with you during your final hours. I want you to know that through your deaths, common Americans like me remember the sacrifices you and all law enforcement officers make to protect and serve and we appreciate you. To your families who are so greatly hurting at this time, I hope they know that you did not die in vain. The nobility of your actions against a madman will always be remembered and appreciated. You personified the notion that America truly is the home of the brave.
Please be at peace now.
To the Families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut,
Our most heartfelt sympathies for your lose. May you have the peace and knowledge that both gentlemen are with God. Their act of heroism will never be forgotten. They exemplified the true thought and act of patriotism. May God bless you and your families at this time and always.
Our deepest condolences to the families of John Gibson and Jacob Chestnut who were slain at our Nation's capitol. We will pray for their repose and for peace and strength for their families.
We pray you will receive comfort from knowing your loved ones are with the Lord today and that they gave their country and fellowman the best they had to offer, their lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, rejoice in knowing your roses are beyond the wall.
"I"LL LEND YOU MY CHILD"

YEARS, OR FORTY-TWO OR THREE, BUT WILL YOU, TILL
I CALL HIM BACK, TAKE CARE OF HIM FOR ME? HE'LL BRING
HIS LOVE TO SECURE YOU, AND SHALL HIS STAY BE BRIEF,
YOU'LL HAVE HIS LOVING MEMORY AS SOLACE FOR YOUR GRIEF.
I CAN NOT PROMISE HE WILL STAY, SINCE ALL FROM EARTH

As a member of the law enforcement community, its always a great loss when lives are given to protect others. That's what these two heroes did. I hope their heroism will never be forgotten.
I'll will keep the families of these slain officers in prayer.
My prayers are with the families.
The acts of bravery - laying down their lives
to protect others - will forever be embedded in
my mind. My God Bless both men and may their
souls live in eternal peace.
To the families of Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut, there are know words that I know of that would comfort you right now, but I would like for you to know you are in my prayers. These two gentlemen were what we all would like to see in our officers HEROS. May God bless you and your families and keep you strong.

To Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Chestnut, and the children,

To the family I am sorry about the lost of your loved ones just continue to pray and you will
have the power to cope through this hard time.
One of the most positive thing about the Creator is that he does not waste. Not time, not lives, not opportunities. If this tragedy does not bring about change ~~ then we are to be blamed.
I truly would like to express my sorrow for the lost of these two officers. I pray for them and wish them peace.
And, I pray that the Creator be with their family and friends to give them joy and strength, and that he may guide Officer Chestnut and Officer Gibson to look down upon them with love and comfort to keep them safe.
With great Love.
I would like to thank these two men for their service to all American citizens.
I'm truly sorry for the loss each of their families must endure.
To The Families of the DC Police Officers,
Please know that you are in our thoughts and our prayers. I cannot imagine the sorrow you feel, but remember that your loved one made a great sacrifice for a lot of people. They will always be remembered as heroes.
My heart goes out to the families of the slain officers. May God be with you in your time of need! Call on the Lord and he will heal your bleeding heart!
My sincere condolences to the two brave officers who sacrificed their lives. Your lives have not been lost in vain. Your supreme sacrifice will forever serve as a reminder of how sacred, but fragile our lives (and freedoms) are.
As a San Francisco Police Officer, shot three times in the line of duty, I feel for the families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut. I certainly realize how vulnerable we all are as police officers, every day we serve. May God grant the families peace.
To the families of these brave and dedicated men. We wish to express to you our sorrow at your loss, and our thank you for their bravery. They exemplify the best in this nation, and we are indebted to them. The terrible shooting in our capital building could have been much worse if not for their quick actions to protect the people. We are proud to be citizens of a nation which includes these brave men.
As a San Francisco Police Officer, shot three times in the line of duty, I feel for the families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut. I certainly realize how vulnerable we all are as police officers, every day we serve. May God grant the families peace.
How do you console families who have suffered such
immense losses? Words don't come easy. I just
thank the families of Detective Gibson and Officer
Chestnut for allowing us, the Nation, to grieve
with them. We feel your loss and know your pain.
May God strengthen you all.
My prayers go out to each family and especially the children left behind to cherish memories.
May you find strength in God to go on with your lives.
Much Love,
In spite of my French nationality, I would like to send my deepest condolences to the families of both American Capitol Police officers who died in this unfortunate incident. I also wish to express to those professionals my sincere gratitude for their belief in protecting people until the very end. God bless you.
Although there is no justification for the loss of two honorable men, I hope their families know how grateful America is for the job they took on and performed with such dedication. My heart goes out to them with sympathy, with hope, and with gratitude.
I will always be grateful to what these two officers did for our country.
What they did was such an unselfish act, one can't helped but be moved
by the fact that they gave their lives defending a special place in our
country. This act of bravery will always be remembered. Thank you
Jacob Chestnut and John Gibson.
You are both true heroes.
My family wishes to express our sincere sympathy to both families.
to the Gibson and Chestnut families. You are all in our prayers.
It is extremely sad that even one of our most honored buildings is not safe from terrorism and that these innocent officers lost their lives.
TO THE GIBSON FAMILY AND THE CHESTNUT FAMILY I AM VERY SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS MAY GOD BE WITH YOU.
My deepest condolences are sent to the family and friends of the two officers killed at the U.S. Capitol building last Friday. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know it is of little comfort now, but you should be proud of your loved ones who sacrificed so much so that others would be safe. They will be remembered lovingly by the citizens of this country forever.
My heartfelt sympathy to both the families of the slain officers - take heart that their lives were not given in vain - that they were the barriers that prevented one man from taking even more lives. They truly made the ultimate sacrifice - yet I know that even that knowledge is of little comfort - that there is still a big hole in your hearts. I will keep you in my thoughts and, more importantly, in my prayers.
I would like to send my condolences to the families and friends of officers Chestnut and Gibson. They died bravely serving those whom they swore to protect. May they always occupy a hallowed place in history.
My sincere condolences to the families of Mr. Chestnut and Mr. Gibson. This tragedy has touched all of us in America. My heart goes out to the children who are now without a father. May God bless each and every one of them.
"No greater love is this, than a man lay down his life
for his friends".....what a shame that this tragedy had
to take place in our nation's Capitol building.
I feel so horribly for the family and friends that were
left behind....
Right now words escape me. I cannot begin to
understand or relate to the pain you feel for I
have never had someone so dear to me taken from
me by the hands of another. My prayers go out to
you and your families.
My condolences to the families of Officers Chestnut and Gibson. My prayers are with them in this most difficult time. Nothing anyone can say can ease their pain but I hope that they can find comfort in the knowledge that so many individuals have the families in our prayers. God Bless
To the families of the slain officers, my prayers and thoughts are with you.
My deepest sympathy for your loss. I know it may be small comfort right now, but later in that quiet moment, that unsuspected thought, when you really realize the word "HERO" means a lot. May God Bless and Keep You. Amen.
Thank you, Gentlemen and Goodbye.
To the Family of Officer Jacob J. Chestnut
I wish to express my sincere sympathy and let you know that you are in my prayers. God Bless You All.
I would like to send my condolences to both
families. I think that this incident is extremely
tragic and sad. With God's blessings and help,
I pray that you all make it through this rough
emotional time.
Our heart felt condolences go to your families...
Deep down we know you are in a better place.
Sincerely, Michelle & Tannis Norris-Johnson
I would like to send my condolences to the families of Officer Chestnut and Detective Gibson. These two men risked their lives to save the lives of others and they should be looked upon as the heroes of the U.S. Capitol. God blessed to both families!!!
God bless both of you...
My thoughts are with your families.
To Karen and her family:
I can't express how sorry I am that something
so tragic had to happen to a family that is so
nice. I just wanted you to know that GOD had a
better purpose in mind for your father when he
decided he wanted him to come home. Remember
the good times, the love he gave and all that he
has taught you and he will never be far. Know
that he loves you and he will always be close,
in your hearts. Sorry we had to hear from one
another under these sad conditions. Stay strong
and GOD bless.
Always a Friend,
MAY GOD GIVE YOU THE STRENTH TO ENDURE THE PAIN YOU ARE SUFFERING AS THE RESULT OF YOUR LOVED ONES. MAY THEIR BRAVERY AND ULTIMATE SACRIFICE PROVIDE YOU INSPIRATION TO ENDURE THE CHALLENGES THAT LIE AHEAD IN THEIR ABSENCE.
Although I did not know Mr. Gibson or Mr. Chestnut
personally, I would like to send my warmest sympathies
to both families. I can somewhat relate to their
loss because I have had sudden deaths in the past.
I pray that God holds you in his arms and give you the
strength to go on. I'm sure both Mr. Gibson and Mr. Chestnut
would not want us to give up, because then they would have
died in vain. There work was finished here and they are
gone home to be with our Lord.
To the officers families, there is absolutely
nothing that anyone can say to you at this time
that will help you make any sense of what has happened.
Hopefully, time will allow you to heal on the
inside. This tragedy does not make it any easier
for us to understand that if God is in control, then
how can something like this happen, but I pray
that God will be with you and your families. One
day, my son will be a capital hill police officer, he's
waiting approval. And when he is accepted, I
hope he will dedicate himself to the job just
as your husbands did.
God Bless you comfort you!
comfort you and keep you and your families.
To the families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut -
I am so very sorry for your loss. There is nothing I can say which will help ease the pain. All I can do is offer my heartfelt condolences to your families and join the chorus of the millions of other Americans in saying your loved ones are true heroes who gave their lives so others might live. They are the embodiment of America; it is men such as they who make our country the greatest nation in the world. I just wish my words could bring them back.
Again, I am so very sorry for your loss, but I am also so grateful these men lived. America is a better place because of these men who made the ultimate sacrifice. They will always be remembered and blessed as the true heroes they are.
To the families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut My heart is truly saddened by your loss. Although I did not know these two men personally, I am greatly affected by their passing because, like all of us, they were children of God; and whenever one is pained, so are we all. Please accept my condolences and know that though they have left this physical world, they are forever with you in spirit and in truth. May God richly bless you.
Heroes on Earth
and
Angels in Heaven
We owe a great deal to these courageous men and my heart goes out to both their families. I am deeply saddened by this tragedy and want their families to know that the nation also grieves their passing.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Gibson and
Chestnut family. Our prayers are with you in your
time of sorrow. Even though I don't know neither
family personal, my heart goes out to both families.
Keep your head up, that's what both of these men
would have wanted.
With much grief and sorrow I express my condolences to the bereaved families. May the Lord of all comfort, comfort families and keep them going strong. The road ahead may be tough but put your hope in Lord Jesus Christ and walk in his footsteps.
Casting all your cares on him for He carreth for you IPeter5 : 6 - 7
May the lord bless you and give you strength
to get you through this trying time. May you
remember the good times you shared and
in doing so, ease the pain & loss you feel.
Know that in heaven gate's there stands two
of the best of the best on guard duty.
Loyal guardians clad in blue,
why did some one shoot at you?
Why did he steal you from us here
and leave us shedding bitter tears.
We can only say farewell and pray
for heroes that are now gone away.
It is with deep regret that I send this message
to the families of the two slain officers. I have
been deeply touched my their instant reaction to
protect and serve. I have lived in this area since
1969 and have always felt safe anytime of day near
the Capitol. I use to live at 1st and E Streets, S.E
and walked a lot of nights through the Capitol grounds
on my trek home from 2nd & D Sts., NW. (then Federal
City College. The U.S. Capitol officer were always polite
and offered me safe passage going home. I know that a life
can never be replaced but their spirits will always be
with you and us. May God continue to comfort and keep you
in his care.

To the families of Mr. Gibson and Mr. Chestnut;
I am so very sorry about your losses. I am very
sure they gave their lives so other people
would not get hurt. You can be assured that they
are in heaven, and that they are totally heroes.
I do believe in an eye for an eye, but our le-
gal system believes in due process. Like I said,
I am so sorry for your losses. If I could do
something for your families I would. I am so
proud to be an American and I know they are true
American Heroes. Everyone in the United States
ought to feel the same way. Thank you Mr.Gibson,
and Mr. Chestnut for your courage and job well
done!!!! May the Lord be with your families
and you can be sure they are watching out over
you in your time of grief. THANKYOU
I am sorry for your loss. Jesus said that "No greater Love hath this, that a man should lay down his life for a friend". They did not die in vain. May God continue to comfort the families of the slain officers.
