My condolences to both families. This was really a shocking tragedy. Having lived in the DC metropolitan area for 15 years, we really took for granted that we were relatively safe when we visited the many wonderful things in the Capitol area. Seeing this happen makes one painfully aware of how quickly, without reason, that can change. The officers did their duty and their memory should be honored. My prayers are with the families and friends of these brave men.

THE FAMILIES OF THE OFFICERS SHOULD REMEMBER ALWAYS THE SACRIFICE THEIR LOVE ONE MADE SO OTHER MIGHT LIVE. GOD WILL BLESS AND KEEP YOU THROUGH THIS TIME OF SORROW; BUT REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT ARE PRAYING FOR YOU. MAY GOD FULL YOUR HEART AND MIND WITH PEACE. I visited the Capitol several years ago. I was a memorable experience. It was my first time in Washington and definitely something I wanted to see. I was made possible by officers such as Gibson and Chestnut. Their service is important to all of us who value democracy. Thank you to all who serve. I is unfortunate that a tragedy must bring us to a time of reflection about the value of that service. My prayers go to the families and all those who work in the Capitol.
    Katherine Ranes
    Phoenix, AZ

I did not know you but will truly miss you. I know you did your best and your family is VERY proud of you. No one knows what makes people do what they do, but God will take care of you your families. REST IN PEACE OFFICERS GIBSON AND CHESTNUTT. My sympathy AND prayers to the families. To both the Gibson and Chesnut families, my sincerest condolences. No words can take away from the pain you feel or the sorrow that we feel as a nation. My uncle, Michael Simler, used to be with the Capitol Police and he remembers both men well. He has had nothing but kinds words for them. I can only believe that Mr. Gibson and Mr. Chesnut are in a better place. Although this senseless act has taken these men, I believe that they are going on to do even bigger and better things. You are all in my thoughts and in my prayers. God bless you all!

Far too often men live lives that are mediocre, and are buried with their dreams still inside them. However, when a man has the opportunity to save a life, and he is put in position to have to possibly give his life to do it, then there can be no higher calling. There is no greater amount of prestige, honor, money, notoriety, or fame that a man could ever strive for; therefore, these MEN achieved all a man could ever want. I'm sure their dream was not to get killed in the line of duty, but when the time came, and they were put into a position to act, they surely gave life their all. I know the families must grieve for the loss of their loved ones, and I pray that they know GOD, and have the faith that they will one day see them again. My heart goes out to them, and I will say a prayer for them.

I just wanted to send my most deepest sympathy to the families of the capitol police who were slain. This is a tragedy, both for the nation and the families of the officers. May God keep you strong in this grieving time. May they both be remembered for their courage, their citizenship, their dedication, and commitment. The fathers, husbands, sons, friends and neighbors that they both were. America is truly touched by the way these two gentlemen defended the visitors, and employees of the capitol. Thank God for these two touching all of our soles, and reminding us of the good there is still in this world. I know that they both have a special job lined up for them in the house of the Lord. Where they will dwell forever, and ever.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have not told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lore, we know not whither thou goest; and how we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. It is with deep sorrow that again I have to watch Police (Peace) Officers cut down by senseless violence. This country has lost respect for those who wear blue. They protect us so that we might live in comfort, sheltered from the daily violence and mayhem that is a daily routine. We shall not forget these braves souls who have made the ultimate sacrifice. We are eternally in their debt. May the peace of God, be with them, their families, and the soldiers in blue who continue to protect us.

Each of us have lost a loved one. How do you find peace when all that surrounds you seems to dark and lonely? Sorrow and heart-ache are never pleasant, but God has a solution. He is your peace and strength. When you call out to Him, He will answer you. He will comfort you. Let God be your strength. He has healing his His hands. Let Him take your trouble and use it to draw you closer to Him, where there is hope and eternal peace. I speak from experience. Although it will not be easy, God will ease your burdens. No amount of words can bring back your loved ones but I just wanted to tell you that God does not make mistakes. Obviously, he needed more angels in Heaven and asked Officer Gibson and Officer Chestnut to return Home to Glory. May God continue to bless and strengthen you. You will be my prayers.

    Bonnie Lea Hunt

I would like to send my sincere condolences to the families of the officers killed on Friday. The bravery these officers displayed is a tribute to their often unappreciated professional responsibilities. It takes unbelievable discipline to come to work day in and day out always wondering in back of your mind when trouble could occur. Knowing that if you relax one second it could be one second to long. Luckily, for the people at the Capitol this horrible day, they were doing business as usual.
    John T. Mobille
    Washington D.C.

May God Bless the Spirits of Officers Chestnut and Gibson for their courageous, and diligent service in protecting the lives of those who work and visit the US Capitol, "The Peoples House". Also, God Bless the family and friends of these two men. During this time of bereavement, we pray that the Lord will guide you to healing, peace and understanding.
    Williamson Family
    Wshington, DC

I've heard it stated that "you were just doing your jobs...doing what was expected of you, in the line of duty." I believe you went above and beyond your call of duty. You paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect one of our most revered establishments. You protected the innocents who happened to be with you during your final hours. I want you to know that through your deaths, common Americans like me remember the sacrifices you and all law enforcement officers make to protect and serve and we appreciate you. To your families who are so greatly hurting at this time, I hope they know that you did not die in vain. The nobility of your actions against a madman will always be remembered and appreciated. You personified the notion that America truly is the home of the brave. Please be at peace now.

To the officers families, there is absolutely nothing that anyone can say to you at this time that will help you make any sense of what has happened. Hopefully, time will allow you to heal on the inside. This tragedy does not make it any easier for us to understand that if God is in control, then how can something like this happen, but I pray that God will be with you and your families. One day, my son will be a capital hill police officer, he's waiting approval. And when he is accepted, I hope he will dedicate himself to the job just as your husbands did. God Bless you comfort you! comfort you and keep you and your families.

It is with deep regret that I send this message to the families of the two slain officers. I have been deeply touched my their instant reaction to protect and serve. I have lived in this area since 1969 and have always felt safe anytime of day near the Capitol. I use to live at 1st and E Streets, S.E and walked a lot of nights through the Capitol grounds on my trek home from 2nd & D Sts., NW. (then Federal City College. The U.S. Capitol officer were always polite and offered me safe passage going home. I know that a life can never be replaced but their spirits will always be with you and us.
