Remembering U.S. Capitol OfficersWashingtonpost.comWednesday, July 29, 1998
Capitol Police officers John M. Gibson, left, and Jacob J. Chestnut were killed during the shooting at the U.S. Capitol. Your condolences are posted below. You may continue to send your condolences. Check back for more postings.
Sadly, we once again lay to rest American heroes. To the families of
all involved: my thoughts and prayers are with you. Your loved ones are
forever in the hearts of a nation proud to have had officers Chestnut and
Gibson in its ranks.
Our family visited the Capitol last July. We met
many kind and helpful officers. I cringe to think
of what last Friday must have been like for the
Capitol staff and visitors alike. Our hearts go
out to the Capitol Police and especially to the
families of officers Gibson and Chestnut. We are
watching the tributes and funerals with great
interest and praying for you all!
John D. Ater, Minister Brilliant, Ohio Christian
Church, my wife Diana, son David, and daughters
Jaime and Jill. May God Bless You all!
To the Chestnut and Gibson families: May it comfort
you to know that this great county feels your loss.
The sacrifice your husband's and father's made will
never be forgotten. Heroes and true Americans are never
forgotten. God bless you all.
May God keep your souls. And may He continue to keep a watchful eye on your
families. You are both true heroes in the real sense of the word.
God Bless.
Our heart felt condolences go out to the friends
and families of both families. They gave their lives
for their country and for that they will always
be in the hearts of all Americans.
As a veteran of Law Enforcement in the Northern Virginia area I know
just how hard and dangerous being a Police of can be and is, every day. Both
Officers did their jobs and did it very well. All of us in Law Enforcement
are very proud of them and all of the U.S. Capitol Police. I remember years
ago reading a poem. It talked about every time a Police Officer dies doing
his job, "a part of America dies". With the death of these two officers a
LARGE part of America has died with them. May GOD Bless
both of them, their families, the U.S. Capitol Police and God Bless America.
God Bless and keep you both. Your bravery and commitment is inspiring.
May your families find some small peace in the fact that you are heroes
unsurpassed.
Words are unable to express my sorrow upon
hearing of the deaths of John M. Gibson and
Jacob J. Chestnut. The families of these
officers will be in my thoughts and prayers in
the days ahead. May their memories of the
good times spent with their loved ones remain
forever in their memories forever. My prayer is that
God will comfort them in the many days ahead.
I Wish to extend my condolences to the Gibson and Chestnut families. As
a former resident of Oxon Hill, MD I still listen to the news around the
Washington, DC area. We still visit Washington, DC quite often as my
husbands' family still lives there. God bless.
To the Chestnut and Gibson Families - please accept my condolences as
you begin to deal with the tragic loss of someone so dear to you. While your
husband/father has physically left this earth so suddenly, may your hearts be
filled with the loving memories you will always have of him. While you can
not see him, there's no doubt that he's an angel watching you from above.
Each served his country well, for that you should feel proud. They paid the
ultimate price for us all. Thank you for sharing your
husband/father with us. May you be filled with God's love and caring as
you try to make sense out of something that makes no sense. While many are
strangers to you, please know that there will be many praying for you.
Officers John Gibson and Jacob Chestnut exemplified honor and glory. What a
terrible tragedy to lose them. My prayers and thoughts are with the families
and friends of these two very fine human beings. Thank you for protecting
our freedoms and watching over us. May you rest in peace.
I would like to send my condolence to the families of officers JOHN M GIBSON
and JACOB J. CHESTNUT. These two brave men gave of themselves
for the protection of others. May God bless them and there families and my
there children know that they where loved by two great hero's of our
time............
They gave all but asked for nothing in return.
May comfort be yours! Though GOD all things are
possible. He will give you perfect peace if you
keep you mind stay on HIM. I know from experience
that it is hard at this time, but though faith
and prayer, the sun is gonna shine again.
Prayers to the Chestnut and Jacobs families and
the Capital Hill Police Force. Heartfelt Thanks
To Your Loved Ones, who gave their lives for
our freedom.
God be with our two heroes, and their families. Sincere condolences to
the families of all involved. Every side of this event is a deep tragedy, and
my heart goes out to all of the families. No one ever dreams that their
children will grow up to encounter an event such as this. It is a heart
breaking tragedy, every way you look at it.
It is so hard to believe that it has been less than a week since a gun man
killed these members of the Capitol Police force and turned everyone's lives
that are associated with Congress and Capitol Hill upside down. To the
families and fellow officers of the Capitol Police force, I realize that
these words are hollow. I know that almost all of us would turn back the
clock if we could to have these two heroes back. Please know that all of you
are and will remain in my daily thoughts and prayers. I don't
understand it, but my mother often says that the Lord takes the good ones
home with him first.
As a House staffer, I knew Officer Chestnut from passing through the Document
Door and had seen Detective Gibson around the Capitol complex with Rep.
Delay. Looking back, their professionalism and attention to detail and duty
was always evident. It is so sad and so horrible that it took something like
this for all of us to realize how much each officer risks each and every day
of his/her life and for us to finally say and show how much we appreciate
each of them and what they do.
As my grandfather always used to say to me, "it is not good-bye. It is until
we meet again." Officer Chestnut and Detective Gibson, see you soon and I
look forward to being able to thank you both personally.
To the family of Jacob Chestnut, I send my prayers and my love. To William,
I see how you're supporting your family..I know it must be hard for you
especially. Hold on and keep the faith. To Tiff, you keep holding on
too....All of you, you have more people than you'll ever know praying for
you, and wishing you well. I hope that is of at least some comfort.
*Let them know we are Christians by our love*
Kateee(UMBC)
God speed be with the families during their
healing process. They made a tremendous sacrifice
to save others, and their heroics will not be
soon forgotten. I hope time can heal the great
pain that one "nutcase" caused. God Bless
Dearest Families of Officers Gibson and Chestnut: Your family tragedy is
shared in my family and in my heart. Your husbands protected me as
congressional staff and frequent visitor to the Capitol for years and I am
forever grateful for their service. They were part of my extended
congressional family and I feel this loss just as do police colleagues and
congressional staff who still serve. I also share your loss because I too am
the spouse of a very dedicated and loving police officer. I grieve with you,
and all of us here in New York will stand proud for you until we all can
once again stand proud together. Because I can't be there to join your
farewell, I send these words, and my prayers that you'll soon find comfort.
Today, when I was in need of comfort, I filled the house with the smell of
homemade chicken soup and toll house cookies. I deliver them to you in my
prayers. May you find peace. God be with you all.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time in
your life. May God Bless you with strength and courage to face today. None
of us know what the future holds...but we do KNOW WHO HOLDS THE FUTURE...GOD.
IT IS A SAD DAY FOR ALL WE WELL MISS THE TWO OFFICERS I SEND MY BEST TO
ALL
Forever rest in peace...your job was well done.
May God Bless the families of the slain
officers and know that God takes only the
best.
My heart goes out to both grieving families:
This will place a heavy burden on Gibson's
sons-it's not easy to be the son or daughter
of a national hero. My advise is to be yourselves.
Focus on your strong points, and develop those
talents. Take care of each other.
Heartfelt sympathy to the families of Officers Chestnut and Gibson.
As a Capitol Hill worker, I walk the halls of the Congressional Buildings and
the Capitol everyday.
I like many, have taken the presence of these officers for granted, until
now. The fearless and courageous acts
of these two men is nothing short of heroic. Let their bravery, valor and
selflessness be a lesson in humanity.
Much appreciation and respect. D.A. Douglas
I live one block from Eliz. Seaton and attended the viewing on Wed.
night. Although I did not know your family, I feel as though I can share in
your bereavement. John gave his life for our country. You and the Chestnut
family are in my prayers. I was particularly moved by the policemen from all
over the country. Also, by the young policemen who attended the viewing with
their young families. God bless you.
I come from a family of three police officers, my dad served on the DC
police force for 25 years and I currently have 2 brothers serving on that
same force. Whenever my dad left the house I feared for his life. My father
passed away June 1990 due to an illness and the loss still hurts. But, what
I later realized after I got over the anger of grief is that GOD has always
been and is still in my life watching over me and I thank him for allowing me
to have known my dad. I would like to say to the families of the slain officers I appreciate the sacrifice these two officers
made to place their lives on the line daily for our safety. GOD will be
your strength just trust and hold on in time he will give you peace! My
prayers are with you always we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.
To: The United States Capitol Police Force
Thank You for always being there! May God be with each of you, watching over
you
each and every day. Keep the Peace.
To the families and friends of the officers, I send my condolence. As
a former member of the U.S. Capitol Police (1989-90) and current member of
the law enforcement profession, I am saddened by your loss and the loss of
two members of the law enforcement community. My prayers are with you.
May God be with you at this time of sorrow
Remember: We will see all of our loved ones
again. Bless you all
To the families and friends of Officer Chestnut
and Officer Gibson: Our sincere condolences for
the loss of your loved one: your loss is our
loss. May the love and support of your family
and friends sustain you and comfort you. You
are in the thoughts and prayers of a grateful
nation. God bless.
To the families of Officer Chestnut and Officer Gibson, I send my
deepest sympathy and condolences. When the story first broke last Friday,
they hadn't released the names of the officers who were slain. So for a
short while, my family and I almost had our worst fears come true. I come
from a family of police officers. One of my many cousins is a capital
policeman. But when we found out that it was not him, we felt a sense of
relief for only a moment. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I could
n't and still can not stop tearing every time I think of what happened last
Friday. It was a tragic and unnecessary event. They are true heroes and I'm
sure God thinks the same. Whatever comfort this is, I, along with the rest
of the world, will keep your families and every other Police officer and civic
employee in our prayers. May you feel some comfort real soon.
To The Gibson and Chestnut Families:
My husband had the privilege of knowing J.J.
Chestnut for many years when serving on the
First Responders' Unit of the U.S. Capitol
Hill Police Department. He worked with John
Gibson for only a few months on the Dignitary
Protection Division. Through this tragedy, I
have felt many emotions for your families.
Although I never met you, I do consider you part
of my family, and also grieve for you and your
loss. I have also felt a renewed appreciation
and respect for my husband and the choice he
made when he became a police officer.
Although we may not understand God's plan, I
do share your sorrow.
My deepest condolences to you today and always.
To Officer Gibson's wife: I've never met you but your heartache and grief are
felt worldwide.
Here's an excerpt from a poem sent by a friend:
I've learned -
that heroes are the people
who do what has to be done
when it needs to be done,
regardless of the consequences.
I've learned -
that your life can be changed
in a matter of hours
by people who don't even know you.
I've learned -
that the people you care most about in life
are taken from you too soon.
I've learned -
that you can keep going
long after you think you can't.
May God be with you and your children through this difficult time.
....I was on my way home from work and caught in a major traffic jam
when heard about this tragedy. The details were very sketchy at the time,
but suddenly nothing else mattered and I started crying in the car. Suddenly
my life was not so bad as I thought. I know these words cannot change
anything but, my prayers and thoughts and faith go out to the families of
these true heroes.....
I wish to offer my most heartfelt condolences for the loss of your
loved ones. I lost my parents three years ago, not from gunfire, but
tragically. All I can say is that time truly does heal, and there will come
a time when you will feel your loved ones presence with you always. They did
not die in vain and hopefully the many who morn with you can help to alleviate
some of your immense pain. God Bless . Katherine Nilsson, Chester,CT
We can't begin to imagine the pain and heartache your families must be
going through at such a sudden loss; the ones left behind are the ones who
are suffering. We know; we lost our mother almost 3 years ago, and knew it
was coming (cancer). At least know your loved ones will never suffer again,
and are in a much better place. Our deepest sympathy to both families.
My heart goes out to the families and friends of Officer Chestnut and
Detective Gibson.
I worked on Capitol Hill for ten years and have many friends on the Capitol
Police Force.
Three of those years were spent working just down the hall from Officer
Chestnut and I
will always remember him fondly. I did not have the pleasure of knowing
Detective Gibson
but feel, like many others, the pain of losing a member of the "capitol
family" just the
same. You are all in my prayers.
I am a native Washingtonian serving as a Navy Chaplain in the Indian
Ocean.. How sad that such a tragic loss occurs in our Nation's Capital. Our
Chapel congregations will be praying for the Chestnut and Gibson families.
May the Peace of Christ be yours.
We all have our definition of what a "hero" is.
I have only four words with which to define hero.
Those words are OFFICER GIBSON / OFFICER CHESTNUT.
My sorrow is great. My pride is unmeasurable.
My deepest condolences to the families and friends
of my heroes.
To the Families of J. J. Chestnut and John Gibson
We may not know you directly, but the pain that you have endure in the lost
of your love ones has touch our hearts so deeply. We will continue to pray
for your families, that God will give each one of you the strength and the
courage to go on and know that one day you will again united with your loves.
We believe that God only take his children that have fought a good fight and
it is time for them to rest, because he has a work prepared for them in His
Kingdom. My God Continue to Bless and comfort you.
With All Our Love,
The Barnes Family
My deepest condolences to the families. May they're death not go unpunished.
As a note to remember.
"Let us not dwell on how they died, but on how they lived and protected."
This is the tail end of a prayer given at the Police Memorial last year by
the Police Emerald Society."
May we never forget....
Cesar C. Gonzalez
Police Emerald Society
Washington, D.C.
I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to the families of the slain
Capitol Hill police officers. Having had an uncle who served on this
prestigious force for over 20 years, I am acutely aware of the dangers
present on such a job as this. May God continue to strengthen you and your
loved ones and may you find peace in His everlasting love.
To the Families of Officer Chestnut and Officer Gibson:
My family was saddened by the lost of your love ones. You are in
our prayers every night. This was a tragedy that should not have happened.
Officer Chestnut and Gibson are true men of God, not many of us would be
willing to sacrifice our own life to save the life of another in the way that
they did.
Continue to hold on to Gods Unchanging Hand and keep the Faith.
In Him
Today I watched the Funeral Procession pass by for Officer Gibson and
tomorrow I shall be standing at the same location for Officer Chestnut
outside of my employment. My deepest prayers go out to the families of the
slain officers. This is just a reminder to us all prayer is needed for this
hostile world we live in. Godspeed to the families, friends and coworkers.
My condolences to the families, friends, and
colleagues of officers Gibson and Chestnut.
These men gave their lives protecting the
freedoms we all take for granted.
I stood today on Independence Avenue and watched the funeral procession
for Officer Gibson. I can't tell you how heavy my heart felt. You have my
heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your loved ones. Hold to God's unchanging
hand and he will see you through these difficult days. Pray for and forgive
Mr. Weston.
To the families of both officers, shed no tears,
cry no more. The ark angels just opened up heavens
door. They both are at peace. Lift your head up high
towards the sky and tell both officers good-bye.
We cannot say that we know what you are going through because we have not
experienced it. However, we can say that the Bible says in Prov. 3:5-6 to
trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not into your own
understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your
path. God's strength is perfect when our strength is gone. He'll carry us,
when we can't carry on, raised in His power, the weak become strong. Our
deepest sympathy goes out to you all. Phil. 4:7 says, and the peace of God
, which surpass all understanding will guard your heart and mind, through
Christ Jesus. God Bless You All!
My thoughts are with Officer Gibson and Jacob Chestnut.
May you both rest in peace.
As part of the law enforcement world through family and work, I
empathize with your pain, heartbreak, and long days ahead. I pray the
continued support from your "police family", friends, and neighbors. My
prayer is that you will also lean on the only true source of comfort and
relief, our Heavenly Father. May God place a burden on the hearts of our
citizens to openly appreciate and pray for our law enforcement protectors
daily, not just during the immediate aftermath of tragedy.
To Officer Chestnut and Special Agent Gibson. Thank you.
Nine of my family members, including my 10 month old daughter were in the
Crypt at the Capitol when this horrible crime was committed. At that time we
had no idea that somebody was giving their life to keep us safe. When we did
hear the news of these two brave officers, we cried. We will never be able to
show our gratitude.
Before visiting the Capitol on Friday the 24th, we buried my father, a
Vietnam Veteran, in Arlington National Cemetery. He is resting now with these
two great men who protected all the visitors that day as if they were their
children.
To the families of the two American heroes -
Please know that you will always be considered part of the law enforcement
family. Your brave husbands and fathers will always be remembered. May God
give you strength through this difficult moment.
I would like to send my sincerest condolences to the families of
Officers Gibson and Chestnut. Your tragedy is also a tragedy for our nation
and we share your pain. Their bravery will long be remembered. I pray for
you and may GOD bless you.
Thank you heros! You will not be forgotten!
To the Chestnut and Gibson families; Although I haven't had the experience of
loosing a husband or father my prayers are with you.
I pray that God Almighty may strengthen you through the days and the years
ahead. Although your loved one is gone in the flesh his
memory is always with you. Continue to look to God for strength. Also
remember that to be absent from the body is to be present with
the Lord; with this may you find comfort to know that they are resting in the
bosom of Jesus Christ.
I am so sorry for your loss. My brother is a Capitol Police Officer and I
know it could have been him. God bless your family and know that our prayers
are with you.
The first time I ever had contact with a U. S. Capital Police officer
I was 12 years old. It was the spring of 1954, and I was playing hooky from
school. My friend and I wanted to ride the Capital subway train. We were
told it was the only subway in DC at the time. After several rides back and
forth, an officer approached us and asked what we were up to. We were a bit
frightened, thinking the officer would call our parents. But he did not! He
took us to the rotunda and explained all about how
the building represented our freedom and our heritage. He wanted us to know
that the place we were in was not a playground, but a place to be respected
and honored. Later, as a teenager, I met another U. S. Capital Police
officer. He was simply the finest man, and the finest baseball coach, I have
ever known. These were my thoughts the moment I heard the tragic news. I
just thought it important to say that the most tragic thing of all is the
loss of average family men!
Men who led normal everyday lives like the rest of us. It is because of men and women like Officers
Chestnut and Gibson that the rest of us can go on living. God bless them and
their families. And God bless America.
Today on my way to court I watched the funeral Procession for
Detective Gibson on RT 123 in VA. When I saw it my eyes became filled with
tears, my throat
began to close up, and my heart feel to my feet. Many people that where
watching the procession had there hands over their heart and had tears in
their eyes.
I feel sorry for the families, friends, and co-workers of Detective Gibson
and Officer
Chestnut. I know that they will be deeply missed by everyone who
knew them. My heart and my prayers go out to you. What ever you do
NEVER EVER FORGET the memories that you have and the good times that
you have shared that is what keeps them alive.
The two slain police officers really are TRUE
American heroes. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of both men.
Our grief will not be as long
Our pain will not be as strong
But a grateful nation will share
The loss of this wonderful pair
So condolences are sent to you
Your years with them were too few
We wish to send our condolences to the families of Officers Gibbons and
Chestnut.I'm sure no loss could be greater. These men are HEROES in the
greatest sense of the word. Be proud you had them for as long as you did.
I would like to commend those two officers who lost their lives to
protect those inside the capitol. You did a job well done even though it cost
you yours. Thank You even though I was not their but I could have been. God
bless and Rest in Peace.
Our prayers are with you in this difficult time.
Please remember that earth has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal.
Many thanks to Officers Chestnut and Gibson. Their courage and
strength is an inspiration to us all. All my sympathy to the families of
these heroes. I know life has changed for all of you, but know there are
many people who support and pray for you.
Our family was shocked by your loss. Please accept our heartfelt
condolences. We lived in the Washington area for many years and very much
appreciated the protection of various police agencies there. Again, we mourn
your loss.
We want to send the families of officers Chestnut and Gibson our
sincerest condolences. We pray that God will bring a sense of comfort and
peace to your families in some small way. Although, we didn't personally
know your husbands and fathers we feel like we did. May God continue to give
you strength to deal with this senseless tradegy.
To the Capitol Police: Thank you for your dedication and unwavering defense
of our Nation's Capitol. I have often sent my family and friends from home
to visit this beautiful, historic building, never once fearing for their
safety. I recommend you to them as honest messengers if they are lost.
Never again will I take you for granted. To the families of Officer Jacob J.
Chestnut and Officer John Gibson: Words cannot express the sorrow that I
feel in knowing of your loss. It is my wish that you draw som
e small comfort in the respect and pride that so many feel for your husbands,
fathers, brothers. Please know that you will be in my prayers for some time
to ease you through this great tragedy. Thank you for allowing us to honor
these men at such a painful time. God Bless you all.
"We all know that someday our time must come to be called into God's
Kingdom, one by one. These physical bodies walking here on earth, Are not
the half of what our spirits are worth..." Words never really eem to help us
in our hour of grief but to know that others are sharing your grief with you
I hope this be some comfort to both the families of Officer Chestnut and
Officer Gibson. May they both rest in peace and may we the nation never
forget the sacrifice these two Officers have made for us.
Our heart and prayers are with the families and friends of these true
American heroes. May God bless you and comfort you today, tomorrow, and
always. Officers Chestnut and Gibson will always be remembered by a grateful
nation. They laid their lives for "the land of the free", and they are
worthy of pride and respect from America, "the home of the brave".
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his
friends." - John 15: 13
My husband and I extend our deepest sympathy and prayers
to the families of Officer Jacob Chestnut and Officer
John Gibson. Although we did not know these brave
men, we also felt a loss. I recently lost
my father so we know the feeling of losing a loved one.
While we loved them dearly, we can all rest assured
that God loved them more.
TO THE CHESTNUT & GIBSON FAMILIES, WORDS CAN'T EXPRESS THE SORROW THAT
OUR HEARTS FELT WHEN THESE MEN WERE TAKEN BUT THE SORROW WAS REPLACED WITH
JOY WHEN WE KNEW THAT THEY ARE IN GOD'S HAND. HE IS A WONDERFUL, CARING AND
LOVING GOD AND WHEN YOU ARE IN GODS HANDS YOU WILL BE ALRIGHT, NO MATTER
WHAT. PSALMS:23 SAYS IT BEST. MAY GOD GIVE BOTH FAMILIES THE STRENGHT TO
UNDERSTAND AND ENDURE THE PAIN OF LOSING YOUR LOVED ONES.
Both families have my deepest condolences for the loss of these two dedicated
and brave officers.
A loss such as this cannot be lessened by mere words.
Only time and plenty of tears will begin to heal the deep wounds left by this
tragic event.
Peace and God's love be with you all as you try to move through the remainder
of your lives.
MY PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS OF SYMPATHY GO OUT TO YOUR FAMILIES.
Capitol Police Officers don't just defend the Capitol, but the
neighborhood that surrounds it. I live in this neighborhood, and they are a
strong and comforting presence. The officers who died gave their lives not
only to their country, but to my community. Its a painful and tragic loss.
The Families of Law Enforcement Officers Chestnut and Gibson, ther is no
words of expression nor feelings of remorse can the family of Stanley L.
Smalls find nor will try to find for your loss of a Father, Husband, Son or
Uncle and relationships will replace these outstanding men of valor. This
type of hideous offense committed against defendors of the every day working
man, woman and child can not be given sanctuary in this world.
Please, seek internal love and peace thru this ordeal for all mankind in pray
and faith in almighty God thru Jesus Christ. Please. accept my family's
sincere love and condolences.
My CONDOLENCE TO THE FAMILY OF THE OFFICERS WHO LIFE WAS TAKEN IN THE
LINE OF DUTY.MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AT THIS TIME MORE THAN OTHER MAY PEACE AND

My sincere condolences in this time of sorrow
for both families.
Officers Chestnut and Gibson will always have a
special place in my heart.
God Bless You
To the Chestnut and Gibson families:
I send my heartfelt sympathy to all of
you. As someone who worked on Capitol Hill
in the early 1970's (when there was no real
security as there is today), I truly admire
the hard, dedicated work of Officers Chestnut
and Gibson. I just returned from Constitution
Avenue where I watched the procession for
Officer Chestnut. I am proud to be an American
and have people such as Officers Chestnut and
Gibson protecting me.
I send my best wishes to you and may G-d
continue to bless all of you.
I just wanted to take the opportunity to send my sincerest condolences
to the Chestnut and Gibson. Your living has not been in vain, as thousands
were blessed by your service to our nation! I attended the memorial service
for Officer Chestnut (as part of Ebenezer's choir), and I was truly moved and
touched by the outpouring of love that was shown. May God bless each family
as you move on with the days ahead.
I would like to send my deepest heart felt
condolences to the Gibson and Chestnut family.
I know there is not enough sympathies and
prayers in the world to undo what has been
done, but if possible try and stay strong
and keep your faith in God to help you through
this. Once again I am sorry that this happened
I would like to send my prayers and condolences to the families of these two
fine officers, I feel a deep sense of sadness, and at the same time a deep
respect for these two brave men whom I never met, their heroic actions has
touched all of our hearts and lives forever.
Go with God!!
As a member of the Metro area community, I grieve for the loss of two
vital members of that community. As an American citizen, I am proud of the
commitment, dedication and sacrifice these two men showed their fellow
Americans. As a child of God, I have Faith that J.J. Chestnut and John
Gibson are with our Father and shall dwell in His house forever. My thoughts
and prayers are with the Chestnut and Gibson families.
I would like you to know that you kave my deepest
sympathy, and may I also say that my thoughts have been with you since I
heard of the untimely
deaths of my two fellow brethrens who where distinguished USCP Officers. I
know you will be brave in your sorrow.
My prayers are with you.
To the Chestnut and Gibson Families, God bless you all and may their
souls rest in perfect peace. Amin
Your loved ones will be sorely missed, and words seem so inadequate to
comfort you in this time of sorrow. But know that God's hands will heal your
hurt, and joy will indeed come in the morning.
May God bless and watch over your families, as well as the thousands of law
enforcement officers who, just as your husbands and fathers, lay their lives
on the line each day. We pray for you and with you.
Emille and Tamara Robinson
Lanham, MD
Officers Chestnut and Gibson are in our prayers,
and I hope that the thousands of prayers also
include all of our brave, good men and women in
blue, alive and dead.I am so proud of our Nation
when it becomes so obviously demonstrated in
times of need that we are indeed one Nation
under God! Therefore, we really know that we
all are God's people. To the families of the
slain officers, and to the Weston family, God
knows and will assist you in your time of grief.
My thoughts and prayers are with the USCP and the
families of these two wonderful officers.
I am sadened by the untimely death of these brave officers.
I am also touched by the unity I've witnessed in the community and between law
enforcement agencies across the United States.
Thank you for saving so many lives by giving your own. I will always
remember you each time I pass the Capitol. God bless your families and
friends.
To the families of Officer Gibson and Officer
Chestnut: May God give you the comfort you need
in your time of sorrow. The Lord alone is our
redeemer and our comforter in times of need.
My deepest sympathy to all the families who have lost so much due to
this tragedy- the Chestnut family, the Gibson family, and the Weston family.
"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted." May God give you
strength.
MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND KNOW THAT GOD IS
WITH YOU NOW MORE THAN EVER.
As an assistant superintendent of the U.S. House Office Buildings in
the Capitol complex, I deeply regret the loss of these two fine officers. My
condolences to the families of officers Gibson and Chestnut. In their
sacrifice, they showed the love of which there is none greater: "Greater love
hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John
15:13) May they serve as shining examples of bravery, dedication, and
heroism for us all. "There is no death, only a change of worlds.
" (Chief Seattle)
I send my heartfelt condolences to the slain officers families. If
there were meaningful gun control laws on the books these 2 officers might be
alive today. The perpetrator stole his father's gun easily because it wasn't
locked away securely as it should have been. If the mentally disturbed
perpetrator of the crime had not been able to get a gun so easily he wouldn't
have been able to kill so easily. The all to easy acces to guns is a problem
that must be addressed today not in the near or dista
nt future.
