Election Forecast: The White House

Updated November 7, 2000

It takes 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. In recent days, campaign analysts have put the electoral votes in more and more states in the "undecided" category. Each state has a number of electoral votes equal to the number of representatives they have in the House and Senate. All states besides Maine and Nebraska award all of their electoral votes to the candidate that gets the most popular votes in that state.
