Pottery Life

Mirza Hassein Rahimzadeh twirls his bowls making perfect parallel circles along the rim. A few strokes and 25 seconds later, he has added two birds and finished the bowl, which he will sell to add to his $60-70-a-month income. Iranians travel to the desert town of Meybod to buy pottery from people like this 65-year-old man and his 58-year-old brother, Mashallah Rahimzadeh, who are making pottery just as their father did: in homemade kilns.
