Tillim started photographing in South Africa in 1986, where he has freelanced for national and international publications. He contributed to a number of collective exhibitions of South African photographers and had a 2001 solo exhibition, "Quito, Angola," in the South African Museum. He was a Prix CARE finalist in Paris, 2001.
