In the vast Kejetia Market in Kumasi, Ghana, women pick their way past an assembly line where shoes are crafted from old automobile tires. Sprawling across 25 dusty acres in the ancient Ashanti capital, Kejetia is one of the largest marketplaces in West Africa.

Born in France, Frank Fournier now lives in New York with his family. His photographs have been widely published in Time, Life, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, Paris Match, Figaro, Stern and the London Sunday Times. His work has included stories on the Rwandan massacres, "The Face of Rape" in Bosnia and infant victims of AIDS in Romania. He has received multiple World Press Photo awards and is a member of Contact Press Images.
