In their new home in suburban Johannesburg, Reuben and Sylvia Mamorare enjoy breakfast with sons, Modise and Matsebe. The Mamorares both work for Eskom, southern Africa's electrical utility.

For 10 years Gubb covered the struggle against apartheid in South Africa and the advent of democracy under Nelson Mandela. Her photographs have been featured in two photo books on Mandela and in a group exhibition, "Shooting Resistance," in New York's Axis Gallery. Her work has appeared in Life, Time, Newsweek, Stern, Paris Match and National Geographic, among others. Gubb has judged the annual South African Ilford Photo Awards several times and was assignment editor for "A Day in the Life of Africa." She is represented by Corbis Saba.
