	Sixteen months later in March 1979, Begin clasped hands with Sadat and President Jimmy Carter at the White House to mark the signing of a peace treaty. The pact secured peace between Israel and its largest Arab neighbor but did not greatly affect Israeli control of the West Bank and Gaza.
