When McCain's A-4 Skyhawk bomber was shot down over Hanoi Oct. 26, 1967, a group of North Vietnamese pulled the injured flyer from a lake. He would spend the next 5 1/2 years in a variety of North Vietnamese prisons, including the infamous Hanoi Hilton.
