    Gore, Governors Target Suburban Sprawl

It may seem a little pedestrian to political junkies who are used to arguing over abortion, taxes and race relations, but Vice President Gore and several governors are making suburban sprawl a cornerstone of their political agendas.

In Seattle on Sunday, Gore continued to promote the administration's "livability agenda" that he introduced in January.

In addition to New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) and Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening (D), who have directly tackled suburban sprawl, several state and regional transportation proposals put forth by lawmakers this year are taking aim at fast-growing areas surrounding cities such as Atlanta and North Carolina's Raleigh-Durham area.
