South Carolina Democratic Primary
South Carolina will have a big say in determining who will have the momentum going into Super Tuesday, when 22 states will vote. This is also the state where John Edwards was born, and if he doesn't do well here -- at least finishing second -- his hopes of winning the nomination could be critically damaged. Barack Obama needs a win to regain momentum, and the fact that more than half of those who go to the polls today are expected to be African Americans should boost his prospects. Polls show him winning a solid majority of black voters. An unexpected win by Hillary Rodham Clinton would make her the prohibitive favorite for the nomination.
