New Jersey Governor

N.J. Governor:
Election Results

Some pundits thought they had the New Jersey governor's race pegged, until primary voters gave the Democratic nomination to state senator and Woodbridge Township mayor James McGreevey. McGreevey exceeded expectations, defeating pre-primary front-runner Rep. Rob Andrews (D-N.J.-1) by about 10,000 votes. Polls during the last month of the race showed incumbent Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R) with only a slim lead. The race was extremely close until Whitman was finally declared the winner; she and McGreevey ran neck-and-neck throughout election night.
