Senate Roll Call to Open Deliberations
Monday, January 25, 1999; 5:41 p.m. EST The 57 to 43 roll call Monday by which the Senate voted to reject a motion to open Senate deliberations on a motion to dismiss articles of impeachment against President Clinton. On this vote, a "yes" vote was a vote to open the debate and a "no" vote was a vote to have the debate in closed session. Voting "yes" were 40 Democrats and 3 Republicans Sens. Susan Collins (Maine); Arlen Specter (Pa.); and Kay Bailey Hutchison (Tex.) Voting "no" were 52 Republicans and 5 Democrats Sens. Blanche Lambert Lincoln (Ark.); Paul Sarbanes (Md.); Max Baucus (Mont.); Robert Byrd (W.Va.); and Jay Rockefeller (W.Va.).
