The revelation that former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry stands accused of not paying federal taxes for the past several years, and the report that he is negotiating a deal that will not involve jail time or a fine tell us that:
A. Some people get all the breaks. Can you for a second believe that the average person would be cut such a deal?
B. Prosecutors and others in the government are out to get Barry even as his health fails him. They wouldn't even have looked at him if it weren't for the fact that voters put him back in office after his mayoral career ended in disgrace.
C. Marion Barry is the journalist's dream, the gift that keeps on giving.

How would you describe Mayor Tony Williams' tenure in office?
A. Bowtie wasn't a charismatic politician, but he transformed Washington, building confidence in the city to draw investors, new residents and tourists to a place that many had previously thought of only as the murder capital of the nation. Washington will be in his debt for decades.
B. Anthony Williams meant well but failed to extend his obvious success with luring the well-to-do to Washington so that all people, including the poor residents who have lived here for generations, might benefit. For a very sharp man with a commitment to excellence, he had some awfully big blind spots.
C. Tony Williams was out for the rich and the newcomers and didn't care about the people who live in this town. He couldn't see beyond downtown and only wanted to impress the president, the rest of the world and the suburbanites--not District residents.
D. All of the above.

The two tragic, violent deaths of Montgomery County high school students in recent weeks tell us that ...
A. ...the school system is unable to cope with the products of dysfunctional families and cannot protect innocent children.
B. ...there is no boundary between the school and the troubles that plague every county and city in the nation. The Montgomery schools are not at fault here and no critical conclusions about the schools are warranted.
C. ...children are growing up too fast and without sufficient supervision. This is dramatic evidence that social policy of the past generation has failed and it's time to support families so that more parents can stay home and be with children of all ages.
D. ...the myth of Montgomery County as bastion of the rich and the comfortable is wildly outdated. The reality is that this is a volatile mix of classes and ethnicities that looks increasingly like an inner city.
E. All of the above.
