FundingsWashington Post Staff Writer Monday, November 20, 2000; Page E05 Local venture capital transactions announced in the last week: * Workscape Inc. of Reston, which develops Internet applications for human resources departments, secured $45 million in funding from DaimlerChrysler Corp., America Online Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc., as well as venture capital firms. Workscape plans to use the money for product development and to recruit additional vendors and partners. * Tridium Inc. of Richmond received $20 million in venture funding from kRoad Ventures and Enron North America. Tridium develops computer software that lets companies control devices such as air conditioners or lighting systems through the Internet. Tridium plans to use the funding for product development and to expand its operations abroad. * Aether Systems Inc. of Owings Mills, a wireless services provider, participated in a $15.5 million round of funding for iMedeon of Alpharetta, Ga. Aether contributed about 10 percent of the investment, company officials said. IMedeon creates wireless Web software for workforce management. * Digital Creations of Fredericksburg closed a $12 million round of funding. The company, which develops Web applications that are used for search engines and content management, will use the money to pursue strategic partnerships. * Opion Inc. of Herndon received $6.5 million in a round of financing led by venture firms New Enterprise Associates and Capital Investors Group. Opion, a market forecasting company, plans to use the funding for marketing and further development of its market analysis technology. * Agilquest of Richmond, a provider of Web-based workspace reservation systems, secured $5 million in funding in a round led by Baltimore-based Cahill Warnock & Co. Agilquest will use the funding to expand its sales and product-development efforts. |
