about the room

Opting to keep their design simple, the designers used textures and colors that would bring the space together without being busy. Patterned fabrics were used as accents for the pillows and small pieces such as the slipper chairs by the fireplace.

The drapes are done in a linen fabric and set on a metal rod for easy care. The paneling was hand-drawn and done with large metal grommets. The chaise was made using solid velvet for a luxurious look. It's comfortable, and helps maximize seating by opting for something other than a traditional sofa -- the chaise can be used as a couch, or for reading and relaxing while sitting or laying down.

The armchairs placed in front of the chaise are easy to move around. The small glass and metal tables, sporting slim lines, are used as contemporary complements, and allow for easy reconfiguration of the room.

The console/desk does several things: It's useful for displaying pictures, writing quick notes or just anchoring the painting above it. The whimsical mirror adds flair to the fireplace. The custom silk and wool area rug helps draw attention to the middle of the room. Finally, the floor and table lamps add a touch of elegance to the lighting. Using pieces inspired by the '40s and '50s, this is a retro look with a modern feel.
