The McDonnell verdict
Former Virginia governor Robert F. McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, battled a 14-count public corruption indictment that alleged that they lent the prestige of the governor’s office to Richmond area businessman Jonnie R. Williams Sr. and that, in exchange, Williams lavished them with gifts and money. After five weeks of testimony, the seven men and five women of the jury found Robert guilty on 11 corruption counts and Maureen guilty on eight corruption counts. Read related story.
